Rationale/Community Background THE DATU BLAH T. SINSUAT MUNICIPALITY, BARANGAY MATUBER AND THE SITIO TABANG A coastal municipality in the 1 st Congressional District in Maguindanao Province; The municipality was named after Hon. Datu Blah T. Sinsuat as the delegate to the 1935 Constitutional Convention and CBO’s Lone District Solon; Brgy . Matuber was formerly named after Lantang and its among the 13 Barangays existing in the Municipality; Sitio Tabang community believes that the term was coined after the story about the sea tides coming from their forefathers and ancestors. They believed that it is only in Sitio Tabang among other Sitios which produces a rare edible water that can get from the certain portion in the sea that only exist during low tides; F urther, the community is among the 7 Sitios present in the Barangay Matuber , that has a total Population of 4,412 with 742 families, 524 households as of 2021 survey.
Why we organized them? Despite a peaceful and settled peace and order policies and regulations, the community still experience depression as manifested from the result of the community survey particularly on the lack of source of income and among its immediate and underlying issues and concern attached to it.
Problems Presented: Lack of source of income; Inaccessibility to potable water; and, Sanitation.
Assessment Through the social work interns deployment in the coastal community, it personally experienced and witnessed the residents’ living condition through the community survey (a house-to-house interview conducted), that found out three common problems of the community; Common problems were; (1) lack of stable source of income, despite being in a coastal and agricultural area it cannot sustain their basic family needs. They had to lend money from relatives and friends, some are extended family as well and still a burden of parents to provide daily needs to the family of the children, some were tenants in terms of machineries and gears and in difficulty to pay, and payment for their debts.
Assessment (2) inaccessible to potable water. Both of their drinking and washing were gotten from deep wells/springs. For them it is a safe, although they experience also the usual illnesses out from sanitation. But the extra burden from them is the water current that slows down sometimes. Other households do not have their own faucets inside their homes and the common thing for them is to fall in line just to fetch water from the deep wells or public faucets, although it is within the area but a quite far walking distance.
Assessment (3) sanitation. In particular, on waste management system/garbage and waste segregation. Since there is no community garbage collector attending in the area, majority of the people kept on burying the wastes and garbage only to avoid scattering of those and other means such as throwing away or burning. But only to find out, that the community is not practicing proper waste segregation.
Assessment Techniques being used: Problem Analysis; Education and Promotion; Demonstration. Strategy: Organizing People for Specific Tasks, Roles and Functions.
