2. HTML? The publishing language used by the WWW is HTML.

3. What does HTML 4.0 mean ? Hypertext Markup Language revision 4.0 is a markup language that represents the structure and presentation of web pages. HTML 4.0 was published on December 1997 as a W3C* Recommendation .   *W3C - World Wide Web Consortium

4. A bit of history HTML was originally developed by Tim Berners-Lee while at CERN, and popularized by the Mosaic browser developed at NCSA. HTML 2.0  November 1995, HTML +  1993 HTML 3.0  1995 HTML 3.2  January 1996 HTML 4.0 1997 HTML 4.01 1998

5. Improvements HTML 4.0 supports style sheets, scripting languages, object support, more multimedia options, and improved accessibility for users with disabilities, among other features .

Improvements There are  22 elements new to HTML  in the 4 specifications, and they cover all the areas, from text-formatting to tables and frames . e.g. < abbr > used to show an ABBReviated version of a word, and to offer the full version < fieldset > allows to group buttons and things together, giving you a framed container to hold them in

7. HTML4 (or HTML 4.01) is constantly evolving. The next revision is HTML 5.0 which has been debated for years and has a very complex process for implementation, though many browsers currently support some of the newer HTML5 features.
