Try it out for understanding the whole thing in a simple way. The digestive system is made up of the gastrointestinal tract—also called the GI tract or digestive tract—and the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder. The GI tract is a series of hollow organs joined in a long, twisting tube from the mouth to the anus.

Digestive System A Journey Through Digestion The Human Sanjay Ganesan
Table of Contents I D N E X Sanjay Ganesan
Introduction The digestive system is a complex organ system responsible for breaking down food into nutrients, absorbing them into the bloodstream, and eliminating waste . Sanjay Ganesan
Digestive tract Sanjay Ganesan
The Mouth Gateway of Digestive system. Begins the process of mechanical and chemical digestion ( Initital Digestion ). Here, Food is mixed with saliva and transform into bolus by Initial digestion. Contains components as, 1 – Teeth 2 – Tongue 3 – Salivary glands Sanjay Ganesan
Esophagus A muscular tube. Transport bolus from the mouth to the stomach. The esophagus contracts in waves, pushing food downward towards the stomach. This process is called peristalsis. Preventing acid reflux Sanjay Ganesan
The Stomach Bolus mixed with gastric juice for the process of Chyme formation. Stores and breaks down food . Muscles in the stomach wall contract to mix food with digestive juices . Some nutrients can be absorbed directly through the stomach line.. Major components, - Gastric glands - Cardiac sphincter - Pyloric sphincter Sanjay Ganesan
Accessory Organs Teeth: Helps for Mechanical digestion by grinding with saliva Salivary glands: produce saliva, which contains enzymes that helps to break down carbohydrates . Liver: produces bile, which helps to break down fats Pancreas: Produces enzymes that helps to digest carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Sanjay Ganesan
The Small Intestine 90 % of the digestion and absorption of food occurs. By producing bile juice and enzymes, Liver and pancreas helps small intestine for break down carbohydrates, proteins, and fats into smaller molecules. Lined by folds of tissue called villi. It helps for the absorption of nutrients from Chyme. Sanjay Ganesan
The Large Intestine Absorption of water, electrolytes and other minerals. Colon consists of four parts :- Ascending, Transverse, Descending and Sigmoid Colon. All leftover waste is compacted and stored at the end of large intestine called Rectum. When full, Anal sphincter loosens and the waste passes out of the body. Sanjay Ganesan
Flow Chart ( Digestion process ) Sanjay Ganesan
Common Digestive Disorders Stomach and Digestive Tract Disorders Peptic Ulcers Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) Gastritis I Intestinal Disorders Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Celiac Disease Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Hemorrhoids Colon Cancer Sanjay Ganesan
Lifestyle Modifications General Treatment for Digestive disorders Dietary Changes Stress Management Weight Management Medications Antacids H2 blockers Antidiarrheals Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) Antibiotics Surgical Procedures Laparoscopic surgery: A minimally invasive procedure to remove diseased tissue or correct abnormalities. Open surgery: A more traditional surgical approach that may be required for complex conditions. Sanjay Ganesan
