Question and Answers:- Q1.What is peculiar about the narrator’s memory? How does help him in his business? Ans: The peculiar thing about the narrator’s memory is that “he never forgets a face but he cannot remember names,”. This helps him in striking up a conversation, even with a stranger and can get their details in a short while. Thus he easily forges business ties with people. Q2. Who was the stranger? Who did the narrator take him to be ? Why did he start a conversation with him?

Ans:The stranger was someone the narrator had seen before though he couldn’t remember where. The narrator started a conversation as he wanted and was hoping to do business with him. Q3 . The narrator says,” It’s only human nature”. What does “it” refer to? Ans : ‘It’ is being referred to the human tendency of talking about oneself to another person, perhaps even to show off. Q4. Why do you think the narrator could not draw out enough information from the stranger? Ans : The narrator could not draw out much information from the stranger as the latter didn’t speak much.

Q5 . Why did the writer boast about the business he had done that morning? Ans : The writer boasted about his business he did in the morning in order to make an impression and to be able to draw the stranger into conversation. He was seeking a business opportunity. Q6 . Now that you know th stranger was a criminal can you think of two of his actions that could have caused suspicion to an alert person? Ans: Yes, it was really suspicious. He was only answering questions in yes or no even though the narrator was a very talkative person. He was also avoiding questions arranged by the narrator. He slept to avoid talking to the narrator.
