Iconography used in horror films

1. Iconography: the visual symbols that are conventionally seen in a film to
symbolise a meaning.
Purpose of research: develop my knowledge on iconography and this will
benefit me to expand my creativity on using iconography to symbolise
ideas in my film trailer in order to make it effective and conventional.
Symbols of death / evil
These can also be visual
features e.g.
Colours that symbolise evil:
 Red
 Black
Lighting can also symbolise
the idea of evil such as non-
naturalistic and low-key
lighting.
Props are also included e.g.
machetes and knives / Ouija
boards
Costume can also be used to
symbolise the idea of evil
presence: such as masks and
black robes.
