IMMOBILIZATION TECHNIQUE S TAYLOR’S BRACE

DEFINITION   Used to reduce movement in an injured body part to prevent further damage and allow healing. I t is the process of holding a joint bone in a proper place with help of Splint , cast ,brace, slings etc.

P urpose To correct or prevent the deformity To maintain position and comfort To maintain normal alignment of the body part To relieve pain and muscles spasm when soft tissue injury To prevent complication in fracture Management

SPLINT A splint is a medical device that holds a body part in place to reduce pain and prevent further injury. Splints can be used to treat a variety of injuries, including broken bones, joint conditions, and muscle conditions.

TYPES OF SPLINT 1. Rigid splint Wood or plastic board used for fracture arm and legs 2. Flexible splint pillow, bed sheet, towel ;with Several fold

3. Straight Splint Rectangular Wooden Splint Well Padded Widely Used In Hospitals To Immobilize Thee Limb E.g. During Iv Infusion Finger Fracture

4. Thomas splint used  to treat injuries to the lower limb,  femur fracture and skin traction

BOHLER BRAUN SPLIN T It is metal frame . which rest on bed and support the leg with knee partially fixed there is pulley at the end for traction purpose

INTERNAL SPLINTING A temporary medical device used in A variety of procedures to support and maintain the function of A body part 1. Nasal Splint :- Used after A septoplasty or other nasal surgery, an internal nasal splint is made of two pieces of flexible, firm material that support the nasal septum.  2. Ureteral Stent:- A double-j ureteral stent is an internal splint that supports the urinary tract and prevents leaks and obstructions during and after surgery 3. Nasal Bone Fracture Splint :- An internal splint is used to stabilize the bone fragments after A nasal bone fracture. The splint can also help control bleeding.

CERVICAL COLLAR Apply around the neck used for cervical, spine fracture

SLINGS It is cloth device used to elevated cradle support healing and to protect your arm from further injury .

BRACES a medical device that provides support and stability to an injured or weak joint, muscle, or bone

CAST Casts keep broken bones in place and straight ,  They also reduce pain and swelling, and protect the injured area from further harm . 1.protective covering made of a bandage and plaster of Paris 2.Synthetic casts, also known as fiber glass casts,

COMPLICATION Dermatitis Joint stiffness Neurological injury Pressure sore Compartment syndrome

GENERAL INSTRUCTION Assess Circulation Injured Area Monitor Mobility Of The Finger Encourage The Pt. Exercise Finger To Prevent Stiffness And Circulation Inspect The Skin Around The Splint. If Redness ,Contact Doctor Simple Immobilization Technique Must Be Consider First Normal Anatomical Position Must Be Maintained Do Not Break Off Rough Edge Of The Cast Do Not Walk. Cast Until Dry And Hard Avoid Getting Cast Wet
