Impact Of Information Technology On Society

CONTENT What is Information Technology? Impacts of IT on Personal Life Education Cyber Crime Work Place Business Conclusion

WHAT IS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY? The study of systems related to computer software and hardware for storing, retrieving and sending information. It is used in each and every field specially in a business or enterprise. IT is the subset of information and communication technology. It is the branch of technology dealing with engineering or applied science

Impacts of IT on: Personal Life IT have not just made everything easier for us but we are now totally dependent on all the technologies. Our thinking capacity have decreased, even if we have intelligence it is of no use because of this technology. Because of the dependency we are becoming weak physically also some of the technologies even pollutes the atmosphere.

Impacts of IT on: Personal Life Information technology have decreased the distance between the continents, communication , due to the rapid development in the sector of IT have lowered the cost of communication also increased the speed the data exchange. It made the day to day activities simpler, easier and faster. The smart life have resulted in a more luxurious life.

Impact of IT on: Education IT have become a blessing in the field of education. The e-class system have enhanced the way of education, the emails system have reduced the stress of notes whereas making easier for the students to get their notes whenever they need. the distance education offered by some universities have reduced the transport and made the students eligible to get their degree from their hometown itself.

Impact of IT on: Education Promotes independent learning in students . Prepares students for the future. Has the potential to lower textbook and tuition prices.  Allows teachers to create an exciting way to educate student.

Impact of IT on: Education The education offered by the recorded videos at nominal rates have helped many people to learn different activities from anywhere, for example YouTube. This is also a result of competition between many educational institutes. The email systems have made easier for the students gaining a distance education. This have become an easier and direct contact between the students and the faculty of that particular university

Impact of IT on: Cyber Crimes Cyber crime is either committed by a vast group or individual using computer and its network for his own profit or for the victim’s financial or mental loss. Computers with a good network connection is used for such crimes. These crimes are done with an intention of harming the reputation of the victim or cause physical or mental harm, or loss, to the victim directly or indirectly. These crimes also includes illegal hacking, using the internet or websites in an illegal way, misuse of copyrights and piracy, etc.

Impact of IT on: Cyber Crimes The targets of cyber crimes can be : Financial Fraud Crimes Cyberterrorism Cyberextortion

I. Financial Fraud Crimes This requires little technical expertise and is common form of theft by employees entering the false data or unauthorized instructions or by using unauthorized processes. This includes  bank fraud, identity theft, extortion, and theft of classified information.

II. Cyberterrorism It is an act of terrorism committed using computers and computer networks. A cyberterrorist is someone who persuade a government or an organization to advance his or her political or social objectives by launching a computer-based attack against computers, networks, or the information stored on them.

III. Cyberextortion Cyber-extortion occurs when a website, e-mail server, or computer system is threatened with repeated denial of service or other attacks by hackers. These hackers demand money in return for promising to stop the attacks and to offer "protection". According to the FBI, cyber-crime extortionists are increasingly attacking corporate websites and networks, disabling their ability to operate and demanding payments to restore their service.

C ontinue More than 20 cases are reported each month to the FBI and many go unreported in order to keep the victim's name out of the public domain. Perpetrators typically use a distributed denial-of-service attack.

Impact of IT on: Workplace IT have made possible, the telecommunication between superiors and the subordinates. This have made possible the 24-hour activity even at the global level. Social interactions are effected positively due to these communications. Since most telecommuters would be among the better educated and higher paid, the demand in these areas for high-income and high-status services would increase. Also there would be an expansion of all type of services, creating and expanding job opportunities for the local population.

Impact of IT on: Workplace A number of industries are affected by electronic commerce. The distribution sector is directly affected, as e-commerce is a way of supplying and delivering goods and services. Due to this there is a loss in jobs for large population. for the demand of IT expertise those with low technical knowledge are becoming jobless . TECHNOLOGY HAS IMPROVED: Improved productivity. Improved efficiency. Reduced costs. Enhanced customers service.

Impact of IT on: Business The main motive of globalization, decreasing the distance in between the different continents, faster and cheap communications, faster orders and deliveries, etc have made possible by IT to increase the business and avail profit. The e-commerce have made possible the businesses to buy or sell desired commodities at desired rates. This e-commerce have removed the intermediates to gain full profits resulting in progress.

Impact of IT on: Business Because of IT there is significantly cuts in costs while generally improving the quality of service. E-commerce require fewer, but high-skilled, employees. E-commerce also permits savings in inventory carrying costs. Which is profitable for the companies and loss for the less skilled employees. Due to the loss of the intermediates, the delivery or the shipping charges increase. Whereas the customer have to directly trust the brand from which it orders which is only possible by the advertisements made by the brands. Any start-ups for such business are very expensive.

Conclusion The ongoing computing and communication revolution has numerous economic and social impacts on modern society and requires serious investigation in order to manage its risks and dangers. Such work would be valuable for both, social policy and technology design. Decisions have to be taken carefully. Many choices being made now will be costly or difficult to modify in the future.
