History of the smartphone There are three Era of smart phone The first Era of smart phone before 2007 it has been since 1993 to 2007 for corporation users as enterprise devices too expensive with features of email, internet , e.g. Simon, Blackberry ( Sarwar&Soomro,2013 ) Simon Blackberry

2 ). The second Era of Smart phone 2007 breakthrough in 2007 with the advent of i -phone . Apple revealed the first smart phone for general consumers. By the end of 2007, Google introduced its Android 0perating System focusing attract consumers the cost low with many more features.

3)The third era of smart phone after 2008 With the improvement of the display quality ,technology more powerful batteries many more features, the most popular mobiles are iPhone, Samsung, Xiaomi, HTC , Motorola, Nokia,LG and so on ( Sarwar & Soomro , 20 8)

Worldwide smartphone user U ser 1.85 billion in 2014 2.38 billion 2017 2.56 billion in 2018 2.87 billion in 2020 Expected user 7.13 billion in 2024 7.33 billion in 2025 China – highest smart phone users since 2014 the expected in 2018 are 704.1 million which 32 million exceed than the user of 2017, it will 58% of total population(statista.2017). In UK, Almost 70% of 11-12 years old use mobile increase t0 90% by the age of 14. Nomophobia ( fear of being without a mobile phone.) Over use of the mobile phone WHO ICD-10 as behavioral problem ( mobile phone addiction). Smartphone addiction is a significant social issue. is behavioral addiction of a nonchemical nature human – machine interaction ( Sadagopan & Manivel et.al 2017). 2. Smart phone addiction

For children face to face interactions and understanding the surroundings are the primary ways to gain knowledge and learn. The smartphone and handheld device are interfering with bonding and parental attention due to lack of interaction between parent and children. Children learn the language ,emotion ,facial expression , communication skills by observing adults. If these are lacking , children are missing an important development milestones. 2. Impact of the smartphone on children development

For natural way to gain knowledge and learn, children need face to face interactions understanding the surroundings children learn language, emotion, facial expression communication by observing the adults. The smartphone and handheld device are interfering with interaction between parent and children and bonding parental attention. These days , children are missing an important development milestones. 2. Impact of the smartphone on children development

1. Smartphone addiction changes brain function The first three years of the life is the crucial stage for brain development. Research found that smart phone addiction has higher amount of the Gamma Aminobutyric Acid (GABA), the neurotransmitter that slows the signal in the brain and results anxiety ,depression, tiredness ,severe insomnia. The overuse of the smart phone cause the brain become desensitized to dopamine the neurotransmitter which is related to learning, memory ,motivation and pleasure. Many research revealed that the toddler who engage more than two hours/day had low vocabulary acquisition, expressive speech delay and poor cognitive development. 2.

2. Smart phone addiction affects on sleep pattern For developing children, sleep is important , Somatotropin the growth hormones release and stimulate cell reproduction and growth during sleep. Infants who slept longer and better quality sleep were taller and longer at their six month compared to infant with poorer sleep . Early phone exposure causes the sleep disturbance in children. Poor sleep habits negatively impact a child’s ability to perform well in class. Short sleep durations in first 2.5 years of life had increased cognitive defects and hyperactivity. 2.

3.Smart phone addiction and Obesity The children with smartphone addiction are more likely to be obese. - increased caloric intake while engaging on mobile , - reduced resting metabolism - decreased physical activity. - hormonal imbalance due to immobility and sleep disturbance increased the appetite that results in increased BMI. 2.

4. Cell phone vision syndrome Normal blinking rate about 15 times per minute but it reduced with the staring smartphone. It causes Blurred Vision dizziness Muscle contracted and pain on neck and shoulder. 5. Decreased attention span the urge to instantly view and/or respond creates the perfect storm for disrupting attention. smartphone users can’t sit quietly without reaching for their mobile device, or find actual real-life conversations boring and too slow. Smartphone users are increasingly unable to think for themselves. 2.

Smartphone highjacks concentration the ringing and buzzing of the devices serves to break concentration and focus of whole class or mass. 2.

As smartphone user: A child is more capable of : handling rapid cyber search : making quick decisions : developing visual acuity : games help to develop peripheral vision . 3. Benefit of the using smart phone Current recommendation for phone use

The current recommendation The American academy of pediatrics recommendation on how much quality programming children should engage in. AAP recommendations for mobile use 0-5 years children Age Recommendations 0-18 months No screen time except video charting 18-24 months High quality programming/apps with active adult interaction 2-5 years One hour of quality programming /apps co-viewed with an adult 3.

Key for the parent No screens during meals No screens at least one hour before bedtime Turn off the devices when not in use Play alongside your children and interact with them face-to-face. Make sure smartphones don’t interfere with opportunities for play and socializing. Limit screen use to one or two hours a day. This includes smartphones, TV, computers, etc. 3.

Key for the parent 2 It is all right to use a smartphone as an occasional treat. Model positive smartphone use . Encourage family meals and communication. Look for of quality apps that promote building vocabulary, mathematical, literacy, and science concepts. Keep smartphones out the bedrooms 3.
