Effect of plant disease on human affairs History Between 1840-1847 , in Irelend a disease late Belight of poteto caused by Phytopthora infestans . In 1870, in Sri lanka a disease Coffee rust caused by Hemileia vastatrix . In 1930, in Central and South America a disease Sigatoka caused by Mycosphaertlla musicola . Between 1878-82, in France a disease Downy mildew caused by P lasmopara viticola .

History In 1942, India Bagal Famine was caused due to Helminthostorium disease of Rice caused by Helminthostorium oryzea . According to Padmanabhan , nothing as devastating as the Bangal Epiphytotic of 1942 about 2 million people died due to starvation. This is recorded as the most epiphytotic of plant pathology. In 1946-47, in India (MP) a disease Wheat rust was responsible for food shortage . In 1951, in Bombay, a disease bacterial Blight of Rice which was thought to be confined Japan widely spread in India.

History In 1963, in India (Bihar) the bacterial blight of Rice disease appeared with the introduction of TAICHUNG NATIVE 1. It caused pandemic within 2 years . Recently an Ergot disease of bajara caused by Claviceps microcephala . In 1974-75, in Brazil Coffee Rust disease breakdown and spread to Columbia. In 1938-39, in Northern India (Bihar, Punjab & UP) a huge loss due to disease Red-Rot of Sugarcane caused by Glomerella t.
