REVIEW

OBJECTIVES demonstrate understanding of momentum Identify the factors that affect momentum Calculate the momentum of an object

IMPULSE AND MOMENTUM Learning Competency: Relate impulse and momentum to collision of objects (e.g., vehicular collision) S9FEIVb-36

"Have you ever witnessed or heard about a vehicular collision? "What do you think happens during a collision?"

“Which has a greater impact? “If these two vehicle collide to each other, Which do you think would have a greater damage?

As you can see, Truck has a greater mas than the car that’s why when these two object collide the car has more damage than the truck because the truck has a greater impact than the car.

3 Key Concept in the video: I MPULSE M OMENTUM C OLLISION

IMPULSE Impulse is the change in momentum of an object. It occurs when a force acts on an object for a certain period of time. Example: When a person jumps off a diving board, they exert a force on the board, and the board exerts an equal and opposite force on the person. The force applied for a short duration results in an impulse, causing a change in the person's momentum and propelling them upward into the air.

MOMENTUM Momentum is a property of a moving object that depends on both its mass and velocity. It represents the "quantity of motion" possessed by an object. Example: Consider a moving car and a parked car of the same mass. The moving car has a higher momentum because it has both mass and velocity, whereas the parked car has zero velocity .

COLLISION A collision occurs when two or more objects come into contact with each other, exerting forces on one another.

What are the factors that affect MOMENTUM?

What are the factors that affect MOMENTUM? Mass Velocity “The greater the mass and velocity the greater the momentum is”

How to solve the momentum of the object? Momentum is defined as the product of mass and the velocity. In equation is defined as; P=mv Where, P = is the momentum m= is the mass V= is the velocity

How to solve the momentum of the object? You can also use this formula; Equation to use If you are looking for If you know P=mv Momentum Mass and Velocity m=p/v Mass Momentum and Velocity v=P/m Velocity Momentum and Mass

Example #1 A skateboarder with a mass of 50 kg is moving with a velocity of 10 m/s to the right. Another skateboarder with a mass of 60 kg is moving with a velocity of 8 m/s to the left. Calculate the momentum.

Example #2 A ball with a mass of 0.5 kg is moving with a velocity of 8 m/s. Calculate the momentum of the ball.

Example #3 A ball with a momentum of 10 kg.m /s is moving with a velocity of 5 m/s. Calculate the Mass of the ball.

How to solve the momentum of the object? You can also use this formula; Equation to use If you are looking for If you know P=mv Momentum Mass and Velocity m=p/v Mass Momentum and Velocity v=P/m Velocity Momentum and Mass

Let’s Play a Game! QUIZ BOWL

Mechanics of the game: The quiz is divided into three rounds; Easy, Moderate and Difficult Each questions has equivalent points in each round; Easy = 1 Point Moderate = 2 Points Difficult = 3 Points Easy round composed of 5 questions, Moderate and Difficult round composed of 3 questions. Over-all Points is 20 POINTS. The team who garnered lots of points, WIN the Game.

Let’s Play a Game! EASY Calculate the momentum of the object given by its MASS and VELOCITY

EASY OBJECT MASS (Kg) VELOCITY Bird 0.50 Kg 18 m/s Basketball Player 100 Kg 5 m/s Bullet 0.25 Kg 600m/s Baseball 0.14 Kg 30m/s Frog 0.75 Kg 12m/s

Let’s Play a Game! MODERATE

MODERATE WHICH HAS MORE MOMENTUM, A HUGE TRUCK THAT IS NOT MOVING OR A SMALL TOY CAR THAT IS MOVING

MODERATE A MOVING CAR HAS MOMENTUM OF 20 KG. M/S. IF IT MOVE TWICE AS FAST, ITS MOMENTUM WOULD______________ AS MUCH.

MODERATE THERE ARE TWO CARS, ONE IS TWICE AS HEAVY AS THE OTHER MOVES DOWN A HILL AT THE SAME TIME. THE HEAVIER CAR WOULD HAVE A ____________ MOMENTUM

Let’s Play a Game! DIFFICULT Problem Solving

DIFFICULT A bowling ball whose mass is 4.0 kg is rolling at a rate of 2.5 m/s. Calculate the momentum.

DIFFICULT A skateboard is rolling at a velocity of 3.0 m/s with a momentum of 6.0 kg.m /s. Calculate the mass.

DIFFICULT A pitcher throws a baseball with a mass of 0.5 kg and a momentum of 10 kg.m /s. Calculate the Velocity
