The Lever System
in Human Body
JOHN WILMER F. LAUREANO
Biomechanics Instructor

What is Lever System?
Alever systemis a rigid bar that moves on
a fixed point called the fulcrum when a
force is applied to it. Movement is made
possible in the human body bylever
systems that are formed by our muscles
and joints working together.

Levers can be used so that a small force
can move a much bigger force. This is
called mechanical advantage. In our
bodies bones act as lever arms, joints act
as pivots, and muscles provide the effort
forces to move loads. There are four parts
to a lever – lever arm, pivot, effort and
load.
