Indications:
Increasedresistanceandretentionform is
needed.
As additional aids ofretentionin badly
broken down or mutilated teeth.
In teeth withpoor prognosis i.e.
endodonticallyandperiodonticallyinvolved
teeth.

Indications:
ECONOMIC FACTOR: When costis a major factor for the patient,
pin-retained restorations may be a cheaper alternative in complex
situations.
AGE AND HEALTH OF PATIENT: For geriatric and debilitated
patients, pin-amalgams are the preferred choice over cast restorations.
Can be used with

Indications:
When one or more cusps needcapping.

Contraindications:
XWhenthere'sa risk ofperforatingthe external tooth
structure
XAnterior teeth, except cases where there’s no gross loss
oftooth structure

Contraindications:
XPulpalexposure, where stresses are loaded on the pulp
XWhen theres great need of Amalgam strength(Pins
weaken the restoration)

Contraindications:
XIf the patient has significantocclusalproblems.
XIf the tooth cannot be properly restored with a direct
restoration because ofanatomic and/or
functionalconsiderations.
