Statement of the Problem
●Leon and Ali, (2018) opined that public hospitals
in Zanzibar are facing challenges which hinder
quality service delivery such as access of drugs,
demoralized health workers, deficit of health care
professional, disorganized health care facilities etc.
●Further, a study by Fulcheret. al., (2020) showed
employee turnover at Mnazimoja was 5.7%,
unfriendly working conditions was 39% and poor
administration was 16%.
5

Cont:
Numerous studies have been done such as:-
●AlaDeen et. al., (2014) in Saudi Arabia on nature of
leadership and challenges faced by leaders on
offering quality of services
●Said et al., (2020) on challenges in health service
delivery under public-private partnership in Tanzania.
However, the studies focused on challenges in
provision of quality health service unlike this
study focused on leadership styles on health
service delivery

The theory gives a foundation of
leaders effectiveness which is
required at MnazimojaHospital
2. Transformational
leadership theory

The relationship between
the leader and the follower
in which all parties are
mutually motivated by each
other to higher levels
Leaders use of their qualities to
motivate followers and isused in the
study to gauge ifthe tenets of the
theory are practiced in Mnazimoja
Hospital.
3. Transactional
leadership theory (
Max Weber 1947)
Leaders initiative in making
contact with followers for
the purpose of an exchange
of valued thingsto enhance
performance.
Used in the study to gauge whether
management at Mnazimojafocuses
on leading to innovation by means of
rewards and reinforcement of
employees.
