•Add –ing to the ends of verbs when you want
to explain something that is happeningright
now.
•I’m brushing my teeth.
•verb= brush
•I’m reading a book.
•Verb = read

The Verb to Be
•Use the verb “to be”before you use the –ing
word.
•I am = I’m We are = We’re
•You are = You’re They are = They’re
•He is = He’s It is = It’s
•She is = She’s

•“Leave me alone!”says the cat. “I’m trying to
sleep!”

•“Help! I am falling down the staircase!”

CVCE Words
•With a CVCE word, (C = consonant, V = vowel)
Drop the “e”and add –ing.
Example:
write writing
love loving
hate hating

Add a Consonant
•For other verbs, add another consonant to the
end
•Example:
•stop -----add another “p” stopping
•run ---add another “n” running
•Swim –add another “m” swimming

Complete the sentences. Fill in the gaps with the correct
