2. Contents The past continuous is a verb tense used to describe an action that was happening at a specific time in the past. Today we are going to learn about one of the most important and used tenses in English. When you should use it , the affirmative , negative and interrogative structures , as well as examples .   To form the past continuous in English, the verb “to be” is used in the past ( was or were ) and the gerund (- ing ) of the main verb is added . subject + verb “to be” in past + main verb in gerund (- ing )   For example , if we want to talk about someone who was studying at that time, we would say “I was studying .” Or if we want to talk about someone who was playing soccer, we would say “ They were playing soccer.”   It is important to keep in mind that the verb “to be” in the past tense changes depending on the subject of the sentence . For example , “I was ,” “he was ,” “ she was ,” etc. STRUCTURE     - Affirmative :   subject + was / were + verb - ing + complements Negative :   subject + wasn't / weren't + verb - ing + complements - Question :  was / were + subject + verb - ing + complements ?

Para formar el pasado continuo en inglés, se usa el verbo “to be” en pasado ( was o were ) y se le añade el gerundio (- ing ) del verbo principal. sujeto + verbo “to be” en pasado + verbo principal en gerundio (- ing ) Por ejemplo, si queremos hablar de alguien que estaba estudiando en ese momento, diríamos “I was studying ”. O si queremos hablar de alguien que estaba jugando al fútbol, diríamos “ They were playing soccer”. Es importante tener en cuenta que el verbo “to be” en pasado cambia según el sujeto de la oración. Por ejemplo, “I was ” (Yo era), “he was ” (él era), “ she was ” (ella era), etc. - Afirmativa: sujeto + was / were + verbo acabado en - ing + complementos - Negativa: sujeto + wasn't / weren't + verbo acabado en - ing + complementos - Interrogativa:  was / were + sujeto + verbo acabado en - ing + complementos?   Estructura del pasado continuo

4. Conjugación de los Verbos Se debe conocer la conjugación en Pasado del Verbo To Be que nos va a servir de "Auxiliar". En cuanto al Verbo Principal, sólo hay que cambiarlo de su forma natural a participio presente o g erundio, agregándole " ing ", teniendo en cuenta que: 1 .- Si el verbo termina en "e", se elimina la "e" y se agrega " ing ". Ex .: To Live = living / To Come = coming . 2 .- Si el verbo en monosílabo y termina en consonante, se d uplica esa consonante y se agrega " ing ". Ex .: To Beg = begging / To Win = winning . Oraciones afirmativas en pasado continuo Se reconocen por el uso de la forma en pasado del verbo To Be ( was-were ) seguida del participio presente o gerundio del verbo principal. La formula es : S + To Be2 ( was-were ) + V1 + C + ET EXAMPLE: My family was visiting me last week S To Be2 V1 C + ET My family es el sujeto Was es una de las formas en pasado del verbo To Be Visiting es el participio presente del verbo to visit Me : es el complemento Last week es una expresión de tiempo

5. Ejemplos de oraciones positivas y negativas:  Oración positiva:  “ I was walking ”  (Yo estaba caminando) >>  Oración negativa:  “ I was not walking ”  (Yo no estaba caminando). Oración positiva:  “ They were talking ”  (Ellos estaban hablando) >> Oración negativa:  “ They were not talking ”  (Ellos no estaban hablando).
