CONTENTS Introduction of an AutoCAD History AutoCAD Screen How it Works. Command Types of commands Drawing units Dimension Styles change Layer Properties Match Properties Orthographic Projection Engineering Drawing
INTRODUCTION The Word Autocad is made up of two words Auto(logo of company) and CAD(computer-aided design/drawting). It is an software application for 2D and 3D design and drafting. AutoCAD is use across a wide range of industries, by architects, project manager ,engineers ,graphics designer etc It is a designing course, which is perform by the help of computer. It allows a user to conceptualize ideas, product designs and drawing of a required technical accuracy to perform rapid calculation and others works.
HISTORY OF AN AUTOCAD AutoCAD was derived from a programme that began in 1977, and then released in 1979 called Interact CAD/MicroCAD. In Dec.1982 AutoCAD software was firstly launched by Autodesk company, founder Jhons Walker and co-founder Michael Riddle. It comes in india in 1988.It’s available in 14 languages in present days.
AUTOCAD SCREEN
HOW IT WORKS The Co-ordinate system in AutoCAD Every drawing show its Co-ordinate There is so many commands like copy, mirror, array, etc modify the drawings. Different types of drawing can be made in the same time by using Layer Command Using line, arc, rectangle, circle, ellipse & polygon,so many drawing of different type can be made 1 2 3 4 5
WHAT IS COMMAND Commands are used in an AutoCAD for drawings and modifying the drawings quickly. Such as Line, Arc, Fillet, copy, etc. These Commands are basically divided into 3 categories: Learning Commands Drawing Commands Modifying Commands.
LEARNING COMMANDS GRIDMODE: The Grid command is used to display a series of dots or lines in either an equal or unequal. Its shortkey is F7. OBJECT SNAP: The object snap mode command is used to specify a precise location on the objects. It displays the points on the objects such as midpoints, centerpoint, insertion point, endpoint, etc. The functional key is F3 ORTHOMODE:The orthomode is used to restrict the cursor movement to specify directions. It allows the cursor movement only in the vertical and horizontal direction. The functional key is F8 SNAPMODE: It restricts a cursor movement to specified intervals.Functional Key is F9. POLAR TRACKING: It restricts the cursor movement to specified angles. The functional key is F10.
DRAWING COMMANDS cvc cvc cvc cvc HATCH:Fills an enclosed area or selected objects with a hatch pattern or fill CIRCLE:Creates a circle using a centre point and a radius ELLIPSE:Creates an ellipse using a specified centre point. ARC:Creates an arc using three points. cvc cvc LINE:Creates a straight line segments. RECTANGLE:Creates a rectangular polyline Hatch Ellipse Rectangular
1.Erase: This command removes objects from a drawing. 2.Move: This command displaces objects to a specified distance in a specified direction. 3.Copy: This command is similar to move command, but it places copies of the related object at the specified displacements. 4.Mirror: This command creates a mirror image of objects. 5.Array: This command creates multiple copies of objects in Pattern. 6.Trim: This command trims objects at a cutting edge defined by other objects. 7.Fillet:This command is used to create rounded edges between the adjacent lines in 2D & 3D. 8.Offset:This command creates circle, parallel line, parallel curves. MODIFYING COMMANDS MIRROR ARRAY OFFSET ERASE TRIM MOVE COPY FILLET
DRAWING UNITS TO SET THE DRAWING UNITS: i.Click Right side of mouse. ii.Type UN + Enter key. iii. Then a pop window will appear. iv.Click OK The format, precision, and other settings used to display coordinates, distances, and angles are set through this dialog box, and are saved in the current drawings. It is recommended to save these things to the drawing template files to reduce the setup time when you start a new drawing.
DIMENSION STYLE MANAGER To set the dimension style manager: i.Click right side of mouse. ii.Type D + Enter key. iii.A pop-window will appear iv.Click on Modify v.Then do the changes as per the requirements . The dimension style manager creates new styles, set the current styles, set override on the current style and compare styles.
LAYER PROPERTIES 1. The Layer command is used to control and manage the drawings in AutoCAD for different purposes. 2. It creates a set of layers having different properties. For example, in a floor plan or house plan and also can create separate layers of doors, windows, etc. 3. It creates many layers by specifying the name for the corresponding layer. It can also control the order of the layers. 4. The shortcut command of the layer is LA. The Layer on the ribbon panel looks like the given image
TO SET THE LAYER PROPERTIES 1.Type LA on the command line + Enter key. 2.A dialog box will appear. 3.Click on the New Layer icon on the top of the dialog box. 4. A new layer will appear as given in 1 st image. 5. Specify the name and colour. We can also change linetype, Transperancy, etc according to the requirements. 6. Lets create total 6 layers as shown in 2 nd image. 7. To create an object, specify the layer as the current layer. 8. The objects will be created based on the selected current layer. 9. To use all Layers in the drawing, keep changing the current layer according to the object.
MATCH PROPERTIES The Match Properties command, as implied by the name, will match the properties of objects to that of other objects, including colour, layer. HOW TO USED Right click of mouse Write MA + Enter key or We can click direct on Match properties shown as below. Select source object will display Click on the object with the properties.Example, Magenta line Now, selection Destination object will appear and the Cursor looks like painter brush. Click on the object as the Destination Object. Select the line that you want to copy the properties to. Click and drag from right to left and select the remaining lines using a crossing window.
An Orthographic Projection enables us to represent 3-D object in 2-D. An Orthographic Projection is a system of drawings that represent different sides of an object. These drawings are formed by projecting the edges of the object perpendicular to the desired planes of projection. Orthographic projections allow us to represent the shape of an object using 2 or more views. There are six principle views of orthographic projection which are shown in 1 st figure. The Standard views used in an orthographic projection are the front, top, and right side views. ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION
ANGLE OF ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION There are four angle of orthographic projection sequence used for common drawing. F.V L.S.V T.V R.S.V F.V T.V T.V F.V L.S.V T.V F.V R.S.V 1 st angle projection sequence 2 nd angle projection sequence 3 rd angle projection sequence 4 th angle projection sequence Here, T.V is Top View F.V is Front view L.S.V is Left Side View R.S.V is Right Side View
An engineering drawing is a type of technical drawing that is used to convey information about an object. A common use is to specify the geometry necessary for the construction of a component and is called a detail drawing. PLAN: The single line plan is developed in to a double line or solid plan. Length and width of rooms are shown in the plan. Thickness of walls, width of doors, windows, sunshades, steps etc. are shown in the plan. The parts of the structure above the cutting plane are shown by dotted lines. Plinth projection is also shown in the plan. ELEVATION: It shows the width and height of a structure. Front and side views are drawn to give frontal and side look of the structures. The shapes of windows, doors, verandah openings, sunshades and parapets are shown in true look. SECTION: The structure is supposed so be cut by a vertical plane, and the view of the cut-section is drawn, which is termed as a section. It shows height of rooms and depth of foundations, type of roofs, floors, thickness of walls and plinth height etc. ENGINEERING DRAWINGS
CONCLUSION AutoCAD is extensively used in the design activities. It help to reduce the time to produce the drawings needed in the work environment.CAD is important in manufacturing as it automates the manufacturing process thereby saving time, enery, cost and making productions highly flexible.Overall, CAD is cheaper tool than taking on a larger workforce to complete drawing tasks.
