DEFINITION OF GENDER
GENDER
Refers to those
characteristics and
roles of men and
women that are
socially constructed.
Social roles and
relations between
men and women in
the society.
It affects all parts of
our lives (social,
economic, and
political.)
It changes over time.
It is what we expect
men and women to
behave.
It is about how power
is used and shared.
GENDER EQUALITY AND EQUITY
What does equality and equity mean?
Equality simply means everyone is treated the same way,
regardless of need or any other individual difference. Equity, on
the other hand, means everyone is provided with what they
need to succeed.
https://risetowin.org
Is a strategy for making women’s, as well as men’s,
concerns and experiences an integral dimension in
the design, implementation, monitoring, and
evaluation of policies and programs in all political,
economic, and social spheres so that women and
men benefit equally, and inequality is not
perpetuated.
•The ultimate goal is to achieve gender equality.
•Gender mainstreaming should be done in all areas
and at all levels in society.
