ABOUT PENTA VACCINE
The Pentavalent vaccine is a 5-in-1 combination vaccine
with five individual vaccines conjugated into one.
Diphtheria
Pertussis
Tetanus
Hepatitis B
Hib

OCCURANCE OF PENTA VACCINE
Introduction of pentavalent
vaccines in the Universal
Immunization Program (UIP)
was a far sighted decision
taken in 2009 by the Ministry
of Health and Family Welfare,
Government of India.

COMPOSITION
Diphtheria Toxoid (30IU)
Tetanus Toxoid (40IU)
Pertussis Toxoid (4IU)
Hepatitis B Vaccine (rDNA) (10mcg)
Haemophilus Type B Conjugate Vaccine (10mcg)

Storage
Store in a 2 - 8°C in the basket of Ice-Lined Refrigerator (ILR).
It should never be frozen as pentavalent vaccine is freeze sensitive.
Conditioned ice packs should be used during transportation to prevent
freezing.
Discard if vaccine is frozen or VVM reaches discard point.

SITE OF INJECTION
The vaccine is administered intramuscularly (IM) in the upper outer part
of the left thigh
Every child must get 3 doses of the Pentavalent Vaccine for full protection.
0.5 ml of each dose of injection is given using AD syringes.
1st dose – 6 weeks old
2nd dose – 10 weeks old
3rd dose – 14 weeks old
DOSAGE OF INJECTION

Redness
Loss of appetite
Swelling
Pain may occur at the limb site
where the injection was given
These symptoms usually appear the
day after the injection has been given
and last from one to three days.
Less commonly, children may
develop fever for a short time
after immunization.
