INTRODUCTION TO
COMMUNICATION

Introduction to Communication
provides a foundational understanding
of how humans exchange information,
ideas, and feelings. Communication is a
vital part of our daily lives, enabling us
to share thoughts, express emotions,
and build relationships.

ELEMENTS OF COMMUNICATION
Sender: The person who initiates the
communication. They encode their thoughts or
feelings into a message they wish to convey.
Message: The information, ideas, or feelings
that the sender wants to communicate. This can
be verbal (spoken or written words) or
nonverbal (body language, gestures, facial
expressions).
Medium/Channel: The method or means by which
the message is sent. This could be through face-
to-face conversation, telephone, email, text
message, social media, etc.

ELEMENTS OF COMMUNICATION
Receiver: The person or audience for whom the
message is intended. The receiver decodes or
interprets the message based on their own
experiences, knowledge, and understanding.
Feedback: The response from the receiver back
to the sender. Feedback can be verbal or
nonverbal and indicates whether the message
has been understood correctly.
Context: The environment or situation in which
the communication takes place. This includes
physical, social, historical, psychological, and
cultural contexts that can affect how messages
are sent and received.

COMMUNICATION
PROCESS
is a series of steps that enables
the transfer of information,
ideas, thoughts, and feelings
between individuals or groups. It
is a dynamic, continuous process
that requires understanding and
cooperation among all parties
involved.

Sender/Encoder:
The communication
process begins with the
sender, who is the
originator of the
message. The sender
has a concept, idea,
thought, or information
they want to
communicate to
someone else.
The sender encodes this
information into a
message by choosing
words, symbols, or
gestures that can
effectively convey the
intended meaning.
Message:
The message is the
actual information, idea,
or thought that the
sender wishes to
communicate. It is the
content of the
communication and can be
verbal (spoken or written
words) or nonverbal
(gestures, body language,
facial expressions, tone
of voice).
Channel/Medium
The channel or medium is
the method used to
transmit the message
from the sender to the
receiver. Channels can
be auditory (such as
speaking), visual (such
as written text or
images), or digital (such
as emails, social media,
or phone calls).

Receiver/Decoder:
The receiver is the individual
or group to whom the
message is directed. The
receiver must decode the
message, which involves
interpreting or translating
the encoded message into a
form that makes sense to
them.
Effective decoding requires
the receiver to understand
the sender's language,
symbols, and context to
accurately interpret the
message.
Feedback:
Feedback is the response of the
receiver back to the sender,
indicating whether the message was
received, understood, and
interpreted correctly.
Feedback can be verbal (such as
asking questions, making comments,
or providing answers) or nonverbal
(such as nodding, smiling, or
frowning). It is an essential
component of the communication
process because it helps the sender
know whether the message was
successful and if adjustments are
needed.

FRESH BUKO IS
THE BEST!
We also buy fresh buko to
refresh ourselves from the heat.
The cool liquid instantly quenches
our thirst, providing a welcome
relief from the sweltering heat.

STREET FOOD
As we made our way through the
bustling streets, our senses were
immediately captivated by the savory
aroma of sizzling skewers and the
tantalizing sight of golden-brown turon
being fried to perfection.

VISIT TO THE
SARI-SARI!
We would pass by the sari-sari
store first to buy recipes for
the dinner mother is cooking.

KARAOKE
NIGHT!
We cap off the night with a
karaoke session with the
family singing our hearts out to
our favorite tunes. Laughter
fills the room as each of us
takes turns belting out lyrics,
whether in perfect harmony or
hilariously off-key.

THANK YOU
FOR LISTENING!
See you again!
