Personal Background and Interest My Educational Background includes a Bachelors of Science in Sociology, Masters of Mental Health Counseling and a PhD. in Research Psychology, I have worked in the field of Psychology for 14 years in both the inpatient and outpatient hospital setting specializing in multicultural training for employees and implementation of multicultural psychology into policy and procedure for clinical practice.

What is Multicultural Psychology: A branch of Psychology that examines the effects of culture on the way people act, think and feel.

Defining Culture How do we define culture? A distinct group of people characterized by shared customs, behaviors and values

The Layers of Culture What does it mean to say that culture is layered? That cultural identify is developed along a spectrum to include: Can you give some examples? Language Gender Ethnicity Spirituality Sexual Preference

Layers of Culture Geographic Location Physical issues Socioeconomic status These Layers form an Individuals WORLDVIEW

Defining WORLDVIEW How would you define the concept of Worldview? The way in which people perceive their relationship to nature, institutions and other people. Our Psychological orientation in life that can determine how we think, behave and make decisions and define events
