Nepali Customes
Nepalisamultiethnicandmulticulturalcountryhavingnumerouscustoms,
traditions,customesandfoodpractices.
Therearemorethan100differentethnicgroupswithmorethan30dressup
styles.Becauseofheterogeniccommunitieswithinsmallgeographicalarea,we
canobserveamazingandpeculiarcustomesineachcommunity.
ItmeansthatNepaliethnicwearismuchmorethanjustdaurasuruwal,Dhaka
topiandgunyuncholo.Outofmanyfamousethnicclothing,followingarethe
welldevelopedandprevailingonesinNepal.

Nepalese men wearDauraSuruwalwithDhaka
Topi,and the women wear GunyuCholo.
Government Officials and others use this traditional
dress on important events and festive occasions.
However, ‘GunyuCholo,’ has lost its relevance in
modern times as Sari is a favorite among the ladies.
DauraSuruwalwas an ancient national dress of Nepal
but now a days it has been greatly replaced by a Coat
Piant.

NewariCustomes
Newaridress is another prevailing customesin Newaricommunity.Haku
Patasiand TapalanSuruwalare their ethnic customes.
Hakkupatashiis the traditional outfit cloth of the women. It is basically a
black sari made up of pure cotton with red borders. The sari is paired with a
white patuka, a kind of waistband, and a shawl worn diagonally over the
blouse. Both the patukaand shawl are made up of cotton. Hakkupatashiis
especially worn duringNewaricultural events
While Tapalanand Suruwalis the traditional attire of Newarmen.

TharuCustomes
Mardaniandphad,atypeofinnerwear,isthemajorattireoftheTharu
men.
And,thetraditionaloutfitofTharuwomenischolia/choli,atypeofblouse
usuallyblackincolour.Nahagi,awhiteclothdressanduporona,thecloth
wrappedaroundthechest,fittogetherwithcholia.Theyweartheseclothes
especiallyintheirculturalandreligiousrituals.
TharucommunityisamainethnicgroupofTeraizoneofNepal.

Limbuareanotherethnicgrouphavingtheirowncostumes
whichdisplaystheiroriginalityandidentity.
MekhliisalongdressmadeofDhaka,wornwithahorizontal
stripofclothalongwithcollarsinaV-neckstyleorcrossing
over.Thisisfeminineattire.
whereasatypeofcapthatispointyandtiesatthebackwith
longstrips;sandokpa,aupperbodycloth;sungrehba,atypeof
coat;Dhakatopi;lapettaandpagappa,upperbodycloth;
ningkheng,akindofscarf;phaoeeorpaohaoarethemale
attire.

China has a long history of peculiar clothing in
relation to various different dynasties, each being
special and influential in their own way in term of
their distinct feature and originality.
Out of many Chinese customesthere are few that
really evolved and developed as a historic traditional
customesof China.

Shang and Zhou Dynasty
Gown above waist and Skirts below waist. Crown(Nobel
people),Turban(ordinary people).
Shenyiliterally means "wrapping the body deep within
the clothes"came in existence in Zhou dynasty with
round sleeves and square collar connoting faying in with
a rule,verticalline at back indicating honesty,horizontal
line on dress tail showing impartiality.

Quinand Han dynasty
GownstyledressinHandynasty,Shenyi(female
garment),Zhijuwornbymenandwomen,Ru
dress,crownandpeishouaresomeexamplesof
costumes.
Wei and Jin dynasty
Mainlyloosestylecostumespreferred.menusedtowear
looseclotheswithfullsleevesandwomenhadtypical
clothesnamelyZajuChuiShaodresscharacterizesbywide
topandtaperingbottom.

Sui and Tang dynasty
TheTangDynastywasthemostthriving,prosperous,splendid,
andgloriousperiodofancientChinesecultureandart.Thestyle
ofwomen'sclothingduringtheTangdynastyisthemost
outstandinginChina'shistory.Tangdynastyattirehadmany
differentstyles,andwaseverchanging,whichenabledthelook
oftheTangdynastystyletoremainelegant,nobleandpoised,
andforeveruniqueandamazing.ThecostumesoftheTang
dynastyarelikeexoticflowersinChinesehistory.Thequalityof
thematerialwasparticularlyfineanddelicate,andthe
decorationslustrous.Womenworeshortcoatandlongskirts
withhightiedwaist.Womenworemalesclothes,exampleof
openingsociety.MenstillworeFuTouontheheadand
Gown.Womenhighlyfocusedonmake-up.HuaDianmostly
wore.HairstylewasverysimpleinSuidynastybutveryfancyin
Tangdynasty.Malesworeroundcollarrobeandlongsleeves
whichwereverysimple.

Ming Dynasty
Strictruleofcustomessetup.Socialinstitutions
stressed.Ranksforemperor'sandofficialsestablished.
Formalandcasualattiredifferentiated.Bufuwasthe
officialdresswornonformalprogrammes.Malewore
gownwithlargefullfrontsandFemaleBiJia.Wmen
alsoworeRuontheupperpartandSkirtonlowerpart
andQiKu9trouserleg).Usedtoweartie
'Gongtao'wovenbyribbons.

Qing Dynasty
EstablishedbyMunchu.Women'sdressesincludedcourt,ceremonial
andcasualcostumes.Thecodeofcourtcostumewasprescribedas
specificdressesforwomenfromthequeentowivesormothersofthe
seven-rankofficials.Ceremonialcostumereferredtoauspiciousdresses
andmourningapparels.Women'sdressforwedding,funeraland
birthdaywereprescribedaccordingtotheirranks.Casualcostumehad
variousstyles.Wintercourthatsofempressdowagersandempresses
weremadeoffumedmartenandsewnwithredwefts.Theirhats
adornedwithpearl,goldpheasantpatterns,gemsandjadeornaments
hadprotectivecollarbehindtheneckwithdroopingbrightyellow
ribbons.Summercourthatsweremadeofcyanvelvet.
Men'scostumemainlyincludedlonggownsandmandarinjackets,and
thesleeveendsemployedthehorse-hoofshapeforthefirsttime.The
structureofalonggownwassimple,witherectcollarandstraightmain
body.Mostlonggownshadbiggerinnerpieceontherightside.Both
backandfrontpartshadseams,andthelowerhemmighthavetwo
splits,foursplitsornosplit.

NepaliandChineseCustomesareverycloseand
historic.SinceNepalandChinaareCloseneighbour
countrieshaving much similaritiesin
culture,customes,languageandmanytraditions,we
haveveryintimaterelationship.Nepalisimporting
mostofit’sclothesfromChina.ItshowshowNepal
preferandutilizeChineseclothes.InNorthernNepal
whichisaboardertoChina,thereisadenseresidence
ofSherpa,Limbu,Bhote,Magar,Tamangetcwhose
customes,culture,Cuisineandevenalanguageisvery
closetoChinesepeople.Sothereisveryclosenessin
customesbetweenNepalandChina.
