2. When? The historical figures mentioned in chapter 5 lived between the creation of the world and the global flood (see Genesis 6-9). This period of history is sometimes called the antediluvian age. The flood occurred approximately 1650 years after the earth was created.

3. Who? Adam and Eve – The first man and woman. Descendants of Seth – Doesn’t cover the family history of Cane. Methuselah – The longest recorded human life, he died at 969 years old. Noah – The main character of Genesis Chapters 6-10. At God’s instructions, his family built an ark to survive a worldwide flood.

4. Where? Genesis 5 is a genealogy that records the names of Adam and Eve’s descendants through their son, Seth. The author(Moses) doesn’t give us specifics about where these men and their families lived.

5. What is the purpose of Genesis Chapter? Chapter 5 is a genealogy Genealogy according to Weber dictionary 1: an account of the descent of a person, family, or group from an ancestor or from older forms 2: regular descent of a person, family, or group of organisms from a progenitor or older form : PEDIGREE 3: the study of family ancestral lines 4 : an account of the origin and historical development of something

6. What About Cain and his descendants ? This particular genealogy tracks the descendants of Adam and Eve, not through Cain (their oldest son) but through Seth. Genesis Chapter 4:16-23 does cover some of the descendants of Cain.

7. THE GENEALOGY OF ADAM AND EVE THROUGH SETH (5:1-32): Adam fathered Seth when he was 130 years old and died at the age of 930. Seth was the third son of Adam and Eve Most likely not Adam’s last child(Genesis‬ ‭5‬:‭4‬ ‭ASV‬‬ “and the days of Adam after he begat Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters.”‭‭)

8. Seth was born after Abel's murder by Cain, and Eve believed that God had appointed him as a replacement for Abel(Genesis 4:25) According to Genesis, Seth died at the age of 912 (that is, 14 years before Noah's birth).

9. Seth fathered Enosh when he was 105 years old and died at the age of 912. Gen. 5:6-8 Enosh (not to be confused with Enoch) was born in the year 235 from creation The name "Enosh" is of Hebrew origin and it means "mortal" or "man." His name it is often associated with the frailty and mortality of humanity. The name signifies the human condition and serves as a reminder of our limited and transient existence.

10. Enosh fathered Kenan when he was 90 years old and died at the age of 905. Gen. 5:9-11 Kenan comes from the Hebrew language. 11. Kenan fathered Mahalalel when he was 70 years old and died at the age of 910. Gen. 5:12-14 Name means “Praise of God” Adam is around 400 years old at this point

12. Mahalalel fathered Jared when he was 65 years old and died at the age of 895. Gen. 5:15-17 The name Jared mean “He who descended” Jared's age was given as 962 years old when he died (when Noah was 366), making him the second-oldest person mentioned in the Bible

13. Jared fathered Enoch when he was 162 years old and died at the age of 962. 15. Enoch fathered Methuselah when he was 65 years old. Enoch didn’t die a natural death. We are told the Lord “took him” at the age of 365. Gen. 5:21-24 Methuselah known for being the oldest person mentioned in the Bible Died in the year of the flood His name means a Man of the Dart, or a Man of the Javelin." Possibly could have know Adam because Adam lived 237 years after his birth.

16. Methuselah fathered Lamech at 187 years old and died at the age of 969 Gen. 5:25-27 Name believed to be derived from a Hebrew word that meant “strong “ or “powerful“. Adam would have been alive for the first 56 years of his life Died about Five years before the flood

17. Lamech fathered Noah at 182 years old and died at the age of 777. Gen. 5:28-31 Noah was 500 years old before his sons where born He mastered “Faith Without Seeing” His faith labor saved mankind and all land creatures from extinction His family populated the world(Genesis 9:1) On almost every content there is a flood story

18. Noah fathered Shem, Ham, and Japheth at 500 years old. Gen. 5:32 Shem Shem was not the oldest, Japheth was. Shem was listed first typically because the Bible list names according to prominence rather then age. Shem was Abraham’s great, great, great, great, great, great, great-grandfather! Shem outlived Abraham by 35 year!

19. Ham Ham second son of Noah He was the father of the Canaanites, the Babylonians, the Phoenicians, the Cushites, and the Egyptians (Genesis 10:6-20). Ham’s son Canaan was cursed by Noah Genesis‬ ‭9‬:‭26‬ ‭NIV‬‬ “He also said, “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the slave of Shem.”

20. Canaan’s line did indeed experience enslavement at the hands of Shem’s descendants. The Canaanites were destroyed or subjugated by Israel (who are Shemites) during the conquest of the Promised Land.

Japheth Was the oldest son of Noah Name possible means “may he extend“ or “beautiful” Considered the progenitor of the European people Blessed by Noah in Genesis‬ ‭9‬:‭27‬ ‭NIV‬‬ “May God extend Japheth’s territory; may Japheth live in the tents of Shem, and may Canaan be the slave of Japheth.””

22. Closing When we started reading this today you were probably thinking how does this pertain use today, but there is a reason the Bible records information like this. It shows us where we came from also just how short our lives are (67 years or just a short 24,455 days)
