The Sangeet Bharti Dance Academy, Shri Ram Centre of Arts, and FICCI Auditorium are all its vicinity. lt is an important Culmral and aas complex and education cenae in New Delhi. Founded in 1950, by Sundari K. Shridharani, who was also its Founding Director. Designed in modem architecmre style, the complex is noted for its “multiple spaces for multiple purposes” and use ofjail work, which was one of the first buildings by noted American Architect JA Stein.The idea of stating a dance instimtion in Delhi was raised by Sundari K. Shridharnai, in 1950 when she had just moved to Delhi. The name ‘Triveni Kala Sangam’ was coined by Flautist, Vijay Raghav Roy and literally meaning “confluence of arts”. PHASE 2: Auditorium for 250 people, painting and sculpmre workshop and residential apartments. Large no of functions to be handled on a small site. The building has been perfectly designed in a relatively small site of one acre following individual aaiculation of functional units in the building massing. On entering the lobby art galleries, auditorium, OAT etc is visible at once. TAMIL NADU C.I.R.H.U SPACE ANALYSIS CAFETERIA Divided into two spaces- the inners had a capacity of 30- 35 people while the outer could accommodate 50- 55 people. The cafeteria overlooked an open landscaped courtyard. OPEN AIR THEATRE OAT is located between teaching corridor and art gallery. It has capacity of 250- 300 people. The semice yard is placed at back of stage. The dressing room, green rooms, toilets etc lie behind stage. The OAT forms heaa of instimte. RECEPTION AND LOBBY AREA The main entrance to the building leads to a large rectangular space, which acts as the reception area. The wooden pa<itioned cubicle serves as the reception office. A staircase opens into this area and connects various Poors to basements. To the right of the main enhance is the “Sridhami Gallery” and straight a head is the corridor, which houses the classrooms. EXHIBITION GALLERY It is located right next to the main entrance. The gallery is cumed in plan . A special framework of wood is attached on the roof. Art heritage or exhibition hall for visual art is located in basement floor. Space is well lit and has good circulation are within. Glass wool with a protective layer of cloth is provided behind the wooden panels for better sound absorption. No acoustic treatment is provided in the backstage. Eight emergency lights and speakers are located on the rear and front walls respectively Wooden panels help in further acoustic treatment. Coffered ceiling in expose concrete with a few acoustical panels. There is no false ceiling and hence the exposed beams form a grid of 4m x 2m on the ceiling making space for lighG and smoke detectors etc. Perforated boards are provided on the spaces between the ceiling. The access is from a 6'- 0" wide singly loaded semi- open coaidor, which overlooks the O.A.T below. The flooring is bare except for mamesses on which the artists and smdents sit Storage space is provided along one length of the wall, which is adequate. Cavity walls are provided for insulation. The lighting and ventilation is taken care of by providing window opening on the whole length of the wall on the norh side. The jaali panel create a cool space of filtered ligh t in the c l ass r oom buildings' coaidor. DETAILING THE FLOOR Concrète flooring is opted for the coaidors of the campus. The open spaces are covered with different types of tiles for the pavements, The art galleries have a Mooring of vitrified tiles while the music and dance rooms had wooden flooring. SCULPTURES A separate court is provided between the 2 blocks, where sculpmres are displayed. Fire escape spiral staircase provided. RAINWATER HARVESTING SYSTEM: Rainwater is channelized around the building. Storm water inlets are provided on the site at regular interval to drain out rainwater. WATER SUPPLY: Overhead Water Tanks are provided for major water supply. Open air theatre is in east- south direction so that in day time the events does not require any artificial lighting. A sculpture court is provided which gives an opportunity to work in an open atmosphère. All floor provide plœter into exterior wall, creates good environment. The external spaces have a more formal quality, to act as a foreground for the building.
