Introduction Jamun is a very important Ayurveda herb. Jamun seeds are mainly used in Ayurveda treatment. Among other things, it is especially beneficial in controlling blood sugar levels in diabetics. India was previously called as Jambudveepa an island where Jambu trees are abundant. Its botanical name is Syzygium cumini or Eugenia jambolana or Myrtus cumini. It belongs to Myrtaceae (Lavanga kula). It is also known as Jamoon and Jambul.

कषायमधुरप्रायं गुरु विष्टम्भि शीतलम् जाम्बवं कफपित्तघ्नं ग्राहि वातकरं परम् || १४०|| (C. Su. 27) Madhura , Kashaya ,Guru , Vishtambhi- producer of wind in abdomen,causes bloating Sheetala :- coolantBalances Kapha and Pitta,Grahi absorbent, bowel binding, aggravates Vata. It is useful in the treatment of overactive bladder.

Part used and Dose Part used: Fruit, seed, leaf, stem bark. Dose:Fresh juice - 10-20 ml Powder - 3-6 grams in divided doses per day.

Karmas Externally - Styptic, Cures burning sensation, prevents skin diseases. The powder prepared from its bark can be applied to wounds to prevent bleeding. In the case of STDs and specifically Syphilis, the oil extracted from its leaves has been found to possess beneficial effects. Internally Digestive system – Fruit has Carminative, digestive, Liver stimulant, and styptic properties. Leaves are effective to cure vomiting. Bark has a styptic property. Over consumption of fruit can cause abdominal distension. Fruit is indicated in loss of appetite, indigestion, abdominal colic, Malabsorption syndrome, etc. Also indicated in chronic diarrhea,. Tender leaves are useful in vamana panchakarma procedure. Circulatory System – Styptic. Indicated in menorrhagia, bleeding per rectum etc Excretory system – Decreases urine production. Indicated in Madhumeha and in udakameha.

Musli Khadiradi Kashayam – Another useful medicine for gynecological disorders.

Ushirasav- Used in bleeding disorders, UTI etc.

A paste of the bark made with milk should be given with honey in raktatisara. Its bark juice should be given with jaggery in vitiation of Pitta.
