Jaw relations Dr shiva

Why to make occlusion Rims? To restore the accurate dimensions

Movements of Mandible

Definition  Jaw relation is defined as Any spatial relationship of the maxilla to the mandible; any one of the infinite relationship of the mandible to maxilla.

Why jaw relation is Needed

Orientation Jaw Relation The jaw relation when the mandible is kept in its most posterior position, it can rotate in the sagittal plane around an imaginary transverse axis passing through or near the condyles

Vertical Jaw Relation

Vertical jaw relation Vertical jaw relation refers to the relationship between the upper and lower jaws in the vertical plane. It is crucial in dentistry, especially in prosthodontics, orthodontics, and occlusion management. There are two key aspects of vertical jaw relation: Freeway space= VDR- VDO

VDR VDO

Vertical Dimension at Rest (VDR) – The natural, relaxed position of the mandible when the patient is at rest, with minimal muscle activity and no contact between the teeth. Vertical Dimension of Occlusion (VDO) – The vertical height of the face when the teeth are in maximum intercuspation (contact). The difference between VDR and VDO is known as the freeway space , typically 2–4 mm, which allows for normal jaw function and speech.

Horizontal jaw relation Horizontal jaw relation is the relationship between the upper jaw (maxilla) and lower jaw (mandible) in a horizontal plane. It's also known as the maxillo-mandibular relationship.

Centric Relation The maxillomandibular relationship in which the condyles articulate with the thinnest avascular portion of their respective discs with the complex in the anterior-superior position against the slopes of the articular eminences. This position is independent of tooth contact. This position is clinically discernible when the mandible is directed superior and anteriorly. It is restricted to a purely rotary movement about the transverse horizontal axis
