❖Deliver significant energy savings with
reasonable ROI
Functional Requirements:
❖Automatically control lighting and HVAC based on
occupancy/time
❖Detect presence with motion sensors for adjustments
❖Enable scheduling with time switches
❖Manual override functionality
❖User-friendly interfaces for configuration and monitoring
SOLUTION REQUIREMENTS
BUSINESS REQUIREMENT

The Elicitation and Collaboration knowledge area describes the tasks that business analysts perform to obtain information from stakeholders and confirm
the results.
Considering the varying complexity of each task I spent approximately 2,000 hours in executing this knowledge area.
Various elicitation techniques used: Stakeholder List, Map, or Persona, Surveys, Observations, Document Analysis.
➢Prepare for Elicitation: Stakeholder List, Map, or Persona technique was utilized to identify stakeholders, and this
helped in understanding who needed to be involved and to what extent.
➢ Conduct Elicitation: My team and I conducted interviews, distributed surveys to key stakeholders and observed
interactions with existing systems to gather information on requirements.
➢Confirm Elicitation Results: All gathered requirements were reviewed and validated to ensure accuracy and
completeness.
➢Communicate Business Analysis Information: The findings from elicitation activities were communicated to
stakeholders through emails and presentation.
➢ Manage Stakeholder Collaboration: Throughout the project, efforts were made to facilitate collaboration among
stakeholders, ensuring that everyone's perspectives and concerns addressed appropriately by organizing regular
meetings, and feedback sessions helped in fostering a collaborative environment.
ELICITATION & COLLABORATION
TASKS PERFORMED

This knowledge area includes tasks that organize and coordinate the efforts of business analysis professionals and
stakeholders.
I spent approximately 800 hours executing the tasks in this knowledge area.
➢Plan Business Analysis Approach: Developed a comprehensive plan outlining business needs and a
hybrid analysis approach.
➢Plan Stakeholder Engagement: Conducted stakeholder analysis and created a communication plan to
engage key stakeholders effectively.
➢Plan Business Analysis Governance: Established governance mechanisms, including a steering
committee and decision-making protocols.
➢Plan Business Analysis Information Management: Developed a plan for managing, storing, and sharing
business analysis information using appropriate tools and repositories.
➢Identify Business Analysis Performance Improvement: Established KPIs to measure success, regularly
assessed performance, and identified areas for improvement to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
BUSINESS ANALYSIS PLANNING & MONITORING
TASKS PERFORMED

This knowledge area includes tasks that organize and coordinate the efforts of business analysis
professionals and stakeholders.
I spent approximately 800 hours executing the tasks in this knowledge area.
➢Trace Requirements and Designs: Tracked each requirement to ensure alignment with design and installation
plans, maintaining focus on energy-saving goals.
➢Maintain Requirements and Designs: Regularly updated requirements and designs to keep them accurate and
consistent, ensuring relevance for future projects.
➢Prioritize Requirements and Designs: Ranked requirements based on importance and potential energy savings,
focusing on the most valuable changes first.
➢Assess Requirements and Designs Changes: Evaluated proposed changes to ensure they improved the project and
stayed within scope, enabling informed decision-making.
➢Approve Requirements and Designs: Secured approval from key stakeholders before proceeding, ensuring
consensus and avoiding delays.

REQUIREMENTS & DESIGNS LIFE CYCLE MANAGEMENT

Strategy analysis should be performed as a business need is identified. The role of each task
helped in setting project goals, identifying risks, and creating a change strategy.
I spent approximately 500 hours executing the tasks in this knowledge area.
➢Analyze Current State: With the effort of my team, we studied existing lighting and energy systems to identify
inefficiencies and current energy usage to establish a baseline for improvement.
➢Define Future State: We also set goals, including a 25% reduction in energy consumption by 2025, to guide
necessary changes and improvements.
➢Assess Risks: Identified potential risks such as high initial costs, implementation delays, resistance to change using
Critical Path and Financial Analysis to plan mitigation strategies.
➢Define Change Strategy: Developed a detailed transition plan with phased implementation and key milestones,
providing a clear roadmap for achieving project goals.
STRATEGY ANALYSIS
TASKS PERFORMED

This knowledge area covers the incremental and iterative activities ranging from the initial concept and
exploration of the need through the transformation of those needs into a particular recommended solution.
I spent approximately 1,000 hours executing the tasks in this knowledge area.
➢Specify and Model Requirements and Designs: I collaborated with stakeholders to detail requirements and
designs for new energy-efficient systems using diagrams and textual descriptions (e.g., Interface Analysis, Use
Cases).
➢Verify Requirements and Designs: Reviewed to ensure quality and feasibility using Acceptance Criteria,
Metrics, KPIs, and Reviews to minimize errors and rework.
➢Validate Requirements and Designs: Ensured alignment with business goals by reducing energy
consumption and costs using Financial Analysis and organizational KPIs.
➢Define Requirements Architecture: Structured requirements and designs to work cohesively using
Functional Decomposition, Process Modelling, and Scope Modelling for a comprehensive system view.
➢Define Design Options: Using techniques like brainstorming and root cause analysis we evaluated options
like manual switch-offs versus automated sensors to select the most effective solution.
➢Analyze Potential Value and Recommend Solution: Estimated potential value and recommended the option
with the highest ROI using Estimation, Financial Analysis, and Risk Analysis and Management.
TASKS PERFORMED
REQUIREMENTS ANALYSIS & DESIGN DEFINITION

This knowledge area describes the tasks that business analysis professionals perform to assess the performance
of, and value delivered by a solution in use by the enterprise, and to recommend removal of constraints that
prevent the full realization of the value.
I spent approximately 300 hours executing the tasks in this knowledge area.
➢Measure Solution Performance: Defined performance measures for the manual approach of assigning a
security person to turn off lights and HVAC systems when spaces are empty. Collected and evaluated data
using techniques like Non-Functional Requirements Analysis, Metrics and KPIs to quantify effectiveness.
➢Analyze Performance Measures: Analyzed performance data using Data Mining, Observation, and Root
Cause Analysis to understand the value delivered and identify areas needing improvement.
➢Assess Solution Limitations: Identified limitations within the manual approach using Lessons Learned, Risk
Analysis, and Root Cause Analysis. Highlighted issues such as the security person’s latency in executing the
task.
➢Assess Enterprise Limitations: Evaluated external factors restricting value realization using Benchmarking
and Market Analysis and Observation. Identified issues such as organizational culture in resistance to change.
➢Recommend Actions to Increase Solution Value: Suggested actions based on Decision Analysis, Financial
Analysis, Prioritization and conducting a proper vendor assessment or assigning more security personnel to
enhance the system's performance and ensure sustained energy savings.
