“Farewell” Symphony No. 45
This symphony has an interesting story to it, as it speaks of the relationship of
master and servant.
Haydn's patron, Prince Nicolaus Esterházy, hired musicians to perform during
his long summers
The summers became too long, and the musicians wanted to leave to be with
their families, but they were afraid of how they were going to tell their
master
So they went to Joseph Haydn, who created Symphony No.45 “Farewell”
It was meant to convey their “complaints” through music, and it worked
In the finale of “Farewell” the musicians begins to leave the stage one by
one to further depict their predicament
Finally, the prince allowed them to return to their families
In the age of Absolutism, this shows as a reminder as to be careful with regard
to how one decided to lodge a complaint with one's aristocratic employer

that is more or like the structure of sentences
