Kehilangan gigi merupakan salah satu masalah dalam kesehatan rongga mulut dan dapat menyebabkan ketidaknyamanan yang mengganggu aspek kehidupan sehari-hari seperti berbicara , mengunyah , bersosialisasi dan kepercayaan diri . Faktor penyebab kehilangan gigi seperti karies , penyakit periodontal, patologi pulpa , trauma, kanker mulut dan usia . Gigi tiruan sebagian lepasan (GTSL) merupakan suatu pilihan perawatan yang efektif dan terjangkau untuk kehilangan gigi sebagian . Gigi tiruan sebagian lepasan (GTSL) merupakan suatu alat yang digunakan untuk mengembalikan beberapa gigi asli yang hilang dengan dukungan utama jaringan lunak di bawah plat dasar dan dukungan tambahan dari gigi asli yang masih ada dan ditetapkan sebagai gigi penyangga Pendahuluan

3. Penting bagi lansia untuk meningkatkan dan mempertahankan fungsi rongga mulut karena lansia memiliki berbagai faktor resiko , s alah satunya yaitu keluhan mulut kering (Xerostomia). Gejala pada pasien xerostomia mengeluhkan kekeringan pada semua permukaan mukosa mulut , termasuk bibir , tenggorokan , dan kesulitan mengunyah , menelan dan berbicara . Xerostomia berdampak pada ketidaknyamanan dalam memakai gigi tiruan dan menjadi efek buruk pada pasien edentulous yang memakai gigi tiruan , dapat mempengaruhi mengunyah , menelan , mengecap dan berbicara .
