scaffolding pipes, wood planks,
couplers, etc., into the work area
using transport vehicle / trailer/
forklift/crane (where required).
1.Unapproved transport
vehicle
2.Use of Non-approved
access road due to
lack of briefing /
communication with
the driver
3.Existing plant facilities
along access road,
subject to accidental
contact with vehicle
4.Prohibited movement
of vehicle in case of
plant emergency.
5.Prohibit use of
defective slings and
other lifting tackles.

pinched/ crushed by
moving parts of the
crane or hit by
High the project.
1.Pre-mobilization acceptance / approved access pass
for the vehicle
1.Brief driver on emergency procedure and restriction
of vehicle movements in emergencies.
2.One assistant to accompany the driver and serve as a
banksman when ever required safety orange vest on,
using flags.
3.Use approved access route, provide drivers a route
plan.
4.Pre-transport survey of approved access clear route
to clear obstruction (if any), check overhead
structures/proximity to existing facilities alongside
access road; ensure safe access during transport.
5.Pre-agreed holding area with plant operations clear
of obstruction available prior to hauling equipment
into the plant.
6.Ensure traffic control to prevent traffic disruption to
plant equipment and personnel
7.Sort out scaffolding materials prior to hauling; ensure
only approved types are mobilized to work area. Only

without spotter
OSHA proof tested LVL scaffold planks will be used on
the project.
8.Rivet type couplers are prohibited.
9.Ensure scaffolding materials are properly bundled/
secured.
10.Ensure materials are properly secured on trailer
beds/ delivery trucks by using sling.
4 Hauling of materials and manual
lifting of Scaffold materials
. Fall Hazard
2 Pinched point
3. Back Injury
High Secure appropriate working permit
Secure all materials/tools on elevated areas
Use proper PPE’s and proper lifting techniques
Long tubes must be carried by two person, load
sharing
Proper tie-up of material when hoisting up only
6 Erection of scaffolding platform1.Fall from height of
personnel
2.Fall from height of
materials
3.Scaffold failure
4.Nearby existing
equipment,
Before ending shift area surround check
1.Follow / Comply with Saudi ARAMCO GI 8.001 and
Scaffold Safety Handbook (SSH) – for all types of
scaffolds (tower/mobile/ under hung special
scaffolds)

3.Secure area directly below by proper barricades, signs
/ warning notices on overhead activities. Assign
watch man to warn other personnel from
unauthorized entry.
4.Scaffolding platform not to be overloaded, do not
store pipes, steel for supports, etc., on personnel
platform.
5.Never exceed working capacity of platform (240 kg/sq
meter)
6.Use of Full Body Harness w/ two shock absorbing
lanyard,complying 100% tie-off.
7.Work force must under gone JGULF Golden Rules of
Working @ Heights orientation training, complete
100% hands-on.
8.Tools & equipment to be secured against fall(i.e. tied
down, use with lanyard or string)
9.Maintain 3 point contact when ascending
/descending from ladder.

11.Never remove floor grating or cut hole on floor
without approved “Grating Removal Certificate” from
HSSE / PTW office.
12.Keep scaffolding pipes / wood planks / couplers at
height secured/tied down against displacement/fall
at all times.
13.Use buckets for couplers, small tools/ materials at
heights.
14.Individual scaffold platforms will be erected /
supported independent from each other i.e. NOT
interconnected such that, future dismantling of one
platform WILL NOT affect structural integrity of the
other platforms.
15.When erecting suspended scaffolds underneath pipe
racks, consider overhead clearance required for
mobile equipment-check with civil supervisors.
16.Elevated platforms on pipe racks should have
minimum of 2 exits at opposite direction from any
work area, discharging to the ground without

should be provided at minimum of every other bay or
third column from topmost working level of pipe
racks to / from the ground.
18.Intermediate step landing to be provided at least 9
meters (30 ft) of height, equipped with complete
guard rails and toe boards.
19.Any erection activity will be immediately suspended
in harsh weather condition such as
rainstorm/sandstorm/thunder & lighting storm. Work
will not resume immediately following rainfall until
scaffolding materials / tubes are dry to prevent
material slippage / accidental drops during handling
due to being slippery.
PPEs’ must be donned at all times

1.Pre-dismantling coordination review / meeting
between scaffold supervisor / focal point and affected
trade supervisor using scaffold platforms.
2.Pre-dismantling joint field inspection by scaffold
supervisor and concerned trade supervisors to field-

platforms being
structurally impacted
6.Dismantling not
communicated to
affected trades / users
7.Permanent plant
equipment /
instruments, valves,
gauges below, etc.,
subject to physical
damage from dropped
objects
8.Delayed hauling of
dismantled materials
confirm specific platforms to be dismantled prior to
the activity. Ensure there are NO remaining works on
the platform by other trades prior to dismantling e.g.
painting / insulation crew / punch list / pre-
commissioning etc.
3.Prior to dismantling, planned arrange for hauling
equipment i.e. forklifts / trailers – ensure access
passes current
4.Prior to dismantling any scaffold / loosening any
coupler, scaffold supervisor and Scaffolders will
thoroughly inspect the whole structure and support
to ensure adjacent or overlapping platforms will not
be affected.
5.Means of anchoring Full Body Harness lanyard should
be first identified i.e. structural beams / columns
nearby; approved extension lanyards are available to
facilitate tie-off. Properly secure the area prior to
dismantling activity, signs put in place.
6.Sensitive instruments / permanent equipment below
dismantling activity, exposed to accidental drops /
damage should first be protected by appropriate

planks prior to dismantling or equivalent.
7.Dismantling to be carried out ONLY by scaffold
craftsmen experienced in dismantling work. Helpers
remain on ground, limited to materials handling.
8.Keep all hand tools tied off against accidental drops.
9.Keep area below properly controlled – standby man
posted to patrol barrier off area while activity is in
progress using warning tapes.
10.Dismantled materials to be stored without
obstructing access / permanent plant equipment and
hauled from the area without delay.
11.Holding racks to be prepared on the ground before
dismantling to keep dismantled materials organized
from start and get them ready for loading / transport
right away.
12.PPEs’ must be donned at all times.
