Abstract Congenital heart disease (CHD) is a significant contributor to neonatal mortality worldwide, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) like Ethiopia. This retrospective cohort study investigates the incidence of CHD among neonates admitted to Ethiopian hospitals and identifies predictors of mortality. The findings will provide crucial insights for developing targeted interventions to improve neonatal outcomes and reduce CHD-related mortality in Ethiopia.

Introduction CHD is structural or functional heart abnormalities present at birth. It’s major structural abnormalities in the heart or intrathoracic great vessels. It’s due to congenital anomalies, which disrupt blood fow through the heart and body. It represents a major public health concern globally.

Introduction Globally, CHD contributes to around 25% of all neonatal deaths. Mortality rates remain high, and there is insufcient evidence regarding the incidence and predictors of mortality among neonates with CHD in Ethiopia.

Study Aim of the study To explore the incidence and predictors of mortality among neonates with CHD in Ethiopia. FURADE

Study Research design Institutional based retrospective cohort was conducted. Setting The study was aimed to be conducted in 8 specialized comprehensive hospitals which provide cardiac service (University of Gondar, Dessie, Felege-Hiwot, Tibebe-Ghion, Debre Markos, Woldia, Debre Tabor, and Debre Berhan) in Amhara regional staste FURADE

Study Subjects: Neonates diagnosed with CHD were specifcally chosen for admission to the NICU wards of selected Comprehensive Specialized Hospitals( n=587 ). Inclusion criteria All newly diagnosed and admitted neonates with CHD from January 1st 2018 to December 30th 2022 were included. FURADE

Study Exclusion criteria Infants lacking complete records of the outcome variable were excluded from consideration. FURADE

Re commendation For future researchers, it is better: To investigate the quality of SBE in midwifery courses provided by Ethiopian universities. FURADE
