PROJECTILE MOTION Projectile Trajectories ELEMENTS OF PROJECTILE MOTION Initial velocity (m/s) Angle (°)  Time of flight (s) Range (m)- (x) Maximum height - (m)- (y )

What have you noticed to the vehicle after each scenario?

Hanging Questions… What will happen if you bump in to someone bigger than you while walking? Why is that roads near schools have humps? What is the purpose of airbags inside cars?

MOMENTUM MR. KARL VINCENT C. PASCUAL, LPT.

MOMENTUM Unlocking of Terms What is Momentum ? Activity Compute the value of Momentum

Momentum can be defined as "mass in motion." All objects have mass; so if an object is moving, then it has momentum Momentum depends upon the variables mass and velocity p = m (v ) where m = mass v = velocity

Mass - amount of matter in an object. Velocity - is a vector quantity that refers to "the rate at which an object changes its position.

Momentum – the measure of how difficult it is to stop a moving object.

ACTIVITY TIME!!!

Activity 1 Tell whether the following object has momentum or not. Say “ HAVEY” if it has momentum. Say “WALEY” if it doesn’t have.

HAVEY!

HAVEY!

WALEY!

WALEY!

HAVEY!

WALEY!

Momentum is a vector quantity. The greater the mass, the greater the momentum . The greater the velocity, the greater the momentum.

Velocity= 10 m/s Velocity = 10 m/s Mass = 100 kg Mass = 50 kg

v = 80 m/s v = 30 m/s m = 50 kg m = 50 kg

PROBLEM SOLVING

SYMBOL QUANTITY UNIT p momentum kilogram ∙ meter per second (kg ∙ m/s) m mass kilogram (kg) v velocity meter per second (m/s) REMEMBER!

Problem Solving What is the momentum of a 5-kg bowling ball moving westward at 2 m/s?

Problem Solving What is the momentum of a 5-kg bowling ball moving westward at 2 m/s? Given : m= 5kg, v= 2m/s

Problem Solving What is the momentum of a 5-kg bowling ball moving westward at 2 m/s? Given : m= 5kg, v= 2m/s p = m * v

Problem Solving What is the momentum of a 5-kg bowling ball moving westward at 2 m/s? Given : m= 5kg, v= 2m/s p = m * v p = 5 kg * 2 m/s west p = 10 kg m /s west

Problem Solving An object thrown downward has a mass of 10kg and a velocity of 5 m/s. What is the momentum of the object?

Problem Solving Answer: 50 kg m/s

Problem Solving A 12kg object with a momentum of 20kg-m/s is moving towards the east. What is the objects velocity?

Problem Solving Answer: 1.67 m/s east

Direction: Given the following data, complete the table below by multiplying the mass and velocity of each object to get its momentum. Show your Solution on another sheet of paper. You have 5 mins to answer. QUIZ TIME!!!

Object Mass (kg) Velocity (m/s) Momentum ( kg.m /s) 1. Bird 3 18   2. Basketball player 70 5   3. Bullet 2 100   4. Baseball 5 30   5. Frog 6 10

Road Safety

AIR BAG An air bag is a safety device in cars that automatically inflates during an accident.

SEAT BELT It is designed to secure the driver or the passenger against harmful movement that may result during a collision or a sudden stop.

Importance of Momentum

ASSIGNMENT: Answer this in your notebook. What is Impulse? What is The Law of Conservation of Momentum What happens to momentum and Impulse before and after the collision? What are the Types of Collisions?
