OVERVIEW 01 This part of the presentation deals with different aspects of the province

INTRO DUCTION Karnali Province is one of the seven federal provinces of Nepal formed by the new constitution which was adopted on 20 September 2015. The total area of the province is 27,984 square kilometres covering 18.97% of the country, making it the largest province in Nepal.It includes 10 districts with Birendranagar as the headquarter. This Province is surrounded by China in its North, Gandaki and Lumbini in its east, Lumbini and Far-West in its south and Fae-West in its west. It holds the highest snow coverage area in seven Provinces. This is the most backward province among others in terms of infrastructures. Karnali is the only one highway which is not still completed. In terms of Education and Health too it is the most backward province.

Most spoken language - Nepali Most populous caste or ethnic group - Chhetri More than 50 languages are spoken as mother tongue in Karnali, however, the number of speakers is decreasing due to lack of facilities, people are migrating from the province. Majority of the citizens are involved in agriculture, foreign employment (mainly went to India) and collecting Yarsagumba and other medicinal herbs. Literacy rate - 62% with majority being men, literacy rate of women is in venerable condition. SOCIAL ASPECT

ECONOMIC ASPECT Karnali Province has the lowest growth rate in the country with an annual economic growth rate of 5.7% and is also contributes the least to the GDP at 4.1%. The province is among the poorest in Nepal with an estimated 28.9% people living under absolute poverty and the condition of relative poverty is anothe r big problem of the province. Majority are involved in agriculture. The province has 2,60,205 Hectares of agricultural area. But because of migration, foreign employment and lack proper marcket most of the areas are barren. Karnali Province has great potential for tourism but due to the lack of the basic infrastructure it is in venerable condition.

ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECT Karnali Province includes many natural attractions; few being - Rara Lake, Shey Phoksundo Lake, Kagbeni etc. With highly varied physiography, climate and altitude, Karnali province is home to diverse ecosystems. Karnali province consists of five ecoregions and 21 forest types, some of them are well-developed and specific to the province. More than half the province’s land surface (51%) is covered by vegetation, which includes forest (30%), shrubland (3%) and grassland (18%). Of a total of 89 mammalian species that are known and expected to be present in Karnali province, 10% are globally threatened. The iconic wild yak, snow leopard (Panthera uncia), red panda and musk deer are major flagship mammals of the province.

FUTURE DEVELOPMENT POSSIBILITY Karnali Province includes various natural attractions such as Rara Lake, Shey Phoksundo Lake. These attractions needs to be marketed and preserved. HERBALS Agriculture needs to be commercialized. Different employment and education opportunities needs to be provided through modernization and commercialization of agriculture. Karnali can contribute larger portion of the medicinal herbs which are too much expensive like Yarsagumba, Jatamasi, Silajeet etc. So that proper utilization of Herbal is most for the development of Karnali TOURISM AGRICULTURE HYDROELERICITY Karnali and its seven tributories are there in the province so it has highest possibility of hydropower which can be milestone for its development.
