KARNATAKA Karnataka is a  state  in the south western region of India. It is the largest state in South India and seventh largest in India. It was formed on 1 November 1956, with the passage of the  state Reorganisation Act. Originally known as the  State of Mysore , it was renamed  Karnataka  in 1973. The state corresponds to the  Carnatic region. Its capital and largest city is  Bangalore.

ABOUT KARNATAKA Karnataka is also known as Karunadu.Kannada is the principal language used to communicate by the people of Karnataka which is also mother tongue of the most.Citizen of Karnataka or who speaks Kannada is known as  Kannadiga .The present Karnataka state consists of three different geographical regions namely  Karavali  or coastal, Malenadu or Western ghats and Bayalu seemae or plains( plateau). Arabian sea is on western side of Karnataka. The Karavali region lies between Arabian sea on the west and Malenadu (western ghats ) on the east. The region which is east of Malenadu is Bayalu seemae . The human population of Karnataka as per 2011 C.E census is around 6.25 crores or 62.5 millions.The Karnatka has rich and diversified culture. Many ancient art forms are practiced like Yakshagana , Dollu Kunita etc.

TRAVELING Travel to Karnataka by Air: Karnataka has seven airports in Bangalore, Mysore, Hampi , Mangalore, Hubli , Belgaum, and Bijapur . The Bengaluru International Airport in Bangalore and the Mangalore International Airport are the two airports that offer international flights to and from Karnataka. Travel to Karnataka by Rail: All major cities of Karnataka are well linked to other parts of the country by a wide rail network. Bangalore railway station is the most important railway terminal. Besides, Karnataka also has an intrastate rail network, which connects cities with in the state.Konkan Railway connects  Mumbai  ( Bombay ), Kochi ( Cochin ) and  Goa  to coastal region of Karnataka. Travel to Karnataka by Road: An excellent network of roads connects cities internally. Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) connects the state to other major cities and states. A number of national highways link Karnataka state with other states of India ( Bharat )Goa, Maharashtra, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Get around[ edit ]

- BY BUS Transportation is made easy by the numerous services available from the  KSRTC  (Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation). They ply not only intra-state buses, but also inter-state buses to neighboring states. KSRTC reservation counters are aplenty all over the state, and tickets can also be booked online. - BY AIR There are a few airports (Aerodromes) in Karnataka, but only handful of them are operational at Bengalooru , Mangaluru , Hubli and Belagaum ( Balagavi ). There are daily flights operating between Mangaluru (Mangalore) and Bengaluru ( Bengalore ) and also between Mumbai and Mangaluru

- BY WATER Karnataka has many rivers and sea shore line, Yet transportation by water is negligible as compared to other mode of transport in the state. One can find handful of boats sailing but mostly used for personal purposes or fishing.There are several factors which have hindered the water transportation in Karnataka.

- FOOD These are a few specialty dishes you can feast on in Karnataka: Dosa  - A thin dough baked until crisp and containing masala . To eat, pieces are broken off and dipped in one of the amazing sauces (chutney) that accompany the dish. Bisibele Baath  - Made of vegetables, rice and lentils and a lot of spices. Raagi and Akki Rottis  - Similar to tortillas but made of raagi (English: coracan , finger millet) or rice flour and black cumin, asafoetida , fresh coriander, grated coconut, green chillies and finely chopped onions. Raagi Mudde  – A staple food in some South Indian households. It is basically made by cooking raagi flour in water and rolling it into thick-consistency balls. Raagi mudde is swallowed and not chewed after dipping it into ghee and sambar . Idli  - Idli , also romanized "idly", is made by steaming batter — traditionally made from black lentils and rice — into patties using a two to three inch diameter mold. Jolada Rotti :  A thin tortilla made of Jawar baked on both sides for 2-3 minutes, grown in northern part of Karnataka. Preferable to have with brinjal curry.

LANGUAGE Kannada is one of the  Dravidian languages  of South India. Apart from being the language of the majority in Karnataka, there are also a large number of people speaking it in the neighboring states of Karnataka i.e. Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.

HISTORY The  history of Karnataka  goes back more than two millennia. Several great empires and dynasties have ruled over Karnataka and have contributed greatly to the history, culture and development of Karnataka The impact of kingdoms of Karnataka origin have been felt over other parts of India also. The Chindaka Nagas of central India Gangas ,   Rashtrakutas of  Manyakheta ,   Chalukyas of Vengi ,   Yadava Dynasty of Devagiri were all of Kannada origin  who later took to encouraging local languages. In the medieval and early modern periods, the  Vijayanagara Empire and the  Bahmani Sultanate became the major powers in Karnataka. The latter disintegrated to form five Deccan Sultanats . The Deccan Sultanates defeated the Vijayanagara Empire in 1565. After the Anglo-Mysore Wars, where the East India Company defeated the forces of  Tipu Sultan, Company Rule began in India. Karnataka was divided between Bombay State, Mysore State, and Hyderabad State. Formal rule under the British Crown began in 1858. During this time, railways and airways, as well as modern universities were introduced in Karnataka. India became Independent in 1947, and according to the States Reorganizatio Act, 1956, the Kannada-speaking areas of Hyderabad State, Madras State were unified with Mysore State. The state was renamed Karnataka in 1973.

DRESS Women in  Karnataka  wear their traditional  dress  of Saree . The sarees are weaved with cotton and silk fabric. As a result most of the  Karnataka  people prefer to wear silk sarees . In ancient times  Karnataka  region was famous for silk fabric. Still, we can find beautifully designed silk sarees in every place of  Karnataka

CULTURE Contemporary theatre culture in Karnataka is one of the most vibrant in  India  with organizations like Ninasam , Ranga Shankara and Rang on foundations laid down by the Gubbi Veeranna Nataka Company. Veeragase , Kamsale and Dollu Kunitha are popular  dance  forms. Bharatanatya also enjoys wide patronage in Karnataka
