Together, we believe they give an impressive indication of the quality of
work of our alumni and, of course, these particular contributors are only
a tiny proportion of all those who have studied or taught medical
sociology at Bedford or Royal Holloway since the 1960s. As well as editing
the volume, we ourselves have written the remaining entries. The quality
of these is for others to judge. Suffice to say, we have drawn extensively
on the knowledge we have gained from our students over many years and
on course material. We are grateful to all our students, past and present,
and, especially, to the contributors to this volume, although final
responsibility for the volume as a whole, as well as for our individual
entries, rests, of course, with us.
