Early Life
•Francis was born
September 12, 1494.
•He is the son of
Charles of Valois, and
Louise of Savoy.
•He became the heir of
his cousin’s throne.

Francis’ Interests
•Francis had a great love
for violent exercises such
as hunting, which was the
passion that he ruled by.
•He gained his first military
experience in 1512, and
the following year, led the
army of Picardy.
• He was married to
Claude on May 18, 1514

•He succeeded Louis
XII on January 1,
1515.
•He was a valiant
knight, courteous, and
a brilliant talker.
•His character was
weak and
authoritative, due to
his trust in people.

•He was a Renaissance
patron of arts, a
humanist, and a popular
king.
•He traveled throughout
France, and provided
processions and games
for people.
•His mother and sister
were two great
relationships and even
influenced him while on
the throne.

•His rule lasted from

March 31, 1547
•Francis was known as
the first Renaissance
king of France
•He allowed the
Renaissance to
flourish under his
reign and also
supported it.

•One of his greatest
enemies was King
Charles V.
•He tried in vain, to get
the support of Henry
VIII.
•Francis lived from
September 4, 1494 to
March 31, 1547.

•He had challenged
Charles V for the title
of emperor, but lost.
•He was thought to
have died from a
urinary tract disease,
or in other cases,
syphilis.
•He had three sons
and four daughters
before he died.
