Komodo dragons or Varanus Komodoensis has local names "Ora". This
giant lizard according to the story first published in 1912 in the national daily
Indies. Peter A. Ouwens, director of the Zoological Museum in Bogor is one who
has introduced the Komodo to the world through his paper. Since then,
expeditions and research on this rare species continue to be done, even rumored
to have inspired the KingKong Film in 1933. Recognizing the need for protection
against Komodo in the midst of human activity in its natural habitat, in 1915 the
Dutch Government issued a ban on hunting and killing dragons. According to
one research on tourism, Komodo Island is included in one of the seven best
attractions in the world. Komodo Island is the only place where komodo live and

There is also Nitak tree (Sterculia oblongata) that is believed to be used as a
medicine and delicious fruit as peas. Komodo Island is a very impressive tourist
attraction and exotic to explore, to dive into the blue of the sea, and to bathe in
the sunlight while looking at the traces of preserved past lives will always be part
of the beauty of Indonesia.

The Supersemar, the Indonesian abbreviation for “Surat Perintah Sebelas
Maret” (Order of March the Eleventh), was a document signed by the Indonesian
President Sukarno on 11 March 1966.
It is said that it was giving the army commander Lt. General Soeharto
authority to take whatever measures he ”deemed necessary” to restore order to
the chaotic situation during the Indonesian killings of 1965-1966.
The abbreviation of “Supersemar” is a play on the name of Semar, the
mystic and powerful figure who commonly appears in Javanese mythology
including wayang puppet shows. The invocation of Semar was presumably
intended to help draw on Javanese mythology to lend support to Soeharto’s
legitimacy during the period of the transition of authority from Soekarno to
Soeharto.

Once upon a time, there was a man who was living in North
Sumatra. He lived in a simple hut in a farming field. He did some
gardening and fishing for his daily life.
One day, while the man was fishing, he caught a big golden fish in
his trap. It was the biggest catch which he ever had in his life.

A few years later, this son would help to bring lunch to his father
out in the fields. One day, his son was so hungry and he ate his father’s
lunch. Unfortunately, he found out and got furious, and shouted; “You
damned son of a fish”. The son ran home and asked his mother. The
mother started crying, felt sad that her husband had broken his promise.
Then she told her son to run up the hills because a huge disaster
was about to come. When her son left, she prayed. Soon there was a big
earthquake followed by non-stop pouring rain. The whole area got
flooded and became Toba Lake. She turned into a fish again and the man
became the island of Samosir.

The legend of Malin Kundang
A long time ago, in a small village near the beach in West
Sumatra lived a woman and her son, Malin Kundang. Malin Kundang and
his mother had to live hard because his father had passed away when he
was a baby. Malin Kundang was a healthy, diligent, and strong boy. He
usually went to the sea to catch fish. After getting fish he would bring it
to his mother, or sell the caught fish in the town.
One day, when Malin Kundang was sailing, he saw a merchant’s
ship being raided by a band of pirates. With his bravery, Malin Kundang

helped the merchant defeat the pirates. To thank him, the merchant

ship and a lot of crews who worked loading trading goods. He was also
married to a beautiful woman. When he was sailing on his trading
journey, his ship landed on a coast near a small village. The local people
recognized that it was Malin Kundang, a boy from the area. The news ran
fast in the town; “Malin Kundang has become rich and now he is here”.
An old woman, who was Malin Kundang’s mother, ran to the
beach to meet the new rich merchant. She wanted to hug him to release
her sadness at being lonely after a long time. When his mother came near
him, Malin Kundang who was with his beautiful wife and his ship crews
denied that she was his mother. She had pleaded Malin Kundang to look
at her and admit that she was her mother. But he kept refusing to do it and
yelling at her. At last Malin Kundang said to her “Enough, old woman! I
have never had a mother like you, a dirty and ugly woman!” After that, he
ordered his crews to set sail to leave the old woman who was then full of
sadness and anger. Finally, feeling enraged, she cursed Malin Kundang
that he would turn into a stone if he didn’t apologize to her. Malin
Kundang just laughed and set sail. Suddenly a thunderstorm came in the
quiet sea, wrecking his huge ship. He was thrown out to a small island. It
was really too late for him to avoid his curse; he had turned into a stone.

Motorbikes must be banned from housing areas
Motorbikes are a nuisance and a cause for great distress. Even though
motorbikes are considered as the most convenient form of transportation. I think
they are dangerous for the human, animals and environment. I think motorbikes
must be banned in housing areas due to the following reasons: cause of
unreasonable amount of noise, air pollution, disease and accidents.
First of all, I would like to point out that motorbikes are a major
contributor to the pollution in the world. Research has shown that motorbikes
emit a deadly gas that is dangerous for the environment. Based on a report from
the Guardian magazine, motorbikes are churning out more pollution than cars,
even though they make up only a small fraction of vehicles on the roads.
Motorbikes emit 16 times the amount of hydrocarbons, including greenhouse
gasses, three times the carbon monoxide and a high amount of other pollutant ,
compared to cars. Consequently, long-term emission of gas from motorbikes is a
major contributor of global warming (science daily).
Secondly, according to a report from BBC news channel, motorbikes are
also responsible for causing disease such as bronchitis, cancer and major trigger
of asthma and high blood pressure. Some of the diseases are so ghastly that they
can kill people (BBC News,2009).
Thirdly, motorbikes create so much noise. There is “vroom vroom’ noise
everywhere. It is extremely difficult to sleep. Parents with infants find it
extremely challenging. The moment their babies fall asleep, one or another
motorbike passes by and the baby wakes up. It is also ardous for children to
concentrate on their homework. Some experts give their opinion that if there is
extreme noise, it can lead to deafness and lack of concentration in children and
adults (Field,1993).
Finally, motorbikes are responsible for horrible accidents. In some cases,
there are deaths. Motorbike riders go so fast that they are unable to stop on time
thus they end up hitting other people or animals. Many times a lot of animals are
trampled and found dead on the road. Motorbikes are known to be the biggest
killer on the road (Fields,1993).
In conclusion, from the arguments above, I strongly believe that motorbikes must

the government will cut the price of Premium by Rp 200 to Rp 300 per liter,
while subsidized diesel will go down by more than Rp 500 in January 2016.
Referring to Energy and Mineral Resources Ministerial Regulation No. 4/2015,
the government evaluates fuel prices every three months based on the latest
update of the benchmark price.

noted that masks had been parts of Indonesian prehistory thousands of years ago.
