Knee Socks – Arctic Monkeys Presentation

This is the presentation that we are presenting to our Focus Group

1. Knee Sock – Arctic Monkeys By Jack Cox and Pav Johal.

2. All songs have a meaning so what is the meaning behind Knee Socks? It’s about Alex’s (then girlfriend) Alexa, Alex has confirmed that the lyrics are based around heartbreak. The song is fittingly called Knee Socks as Alexa used to wear knee socks back when Alex and her dated . Alex broke up with Johanna in January and he met Alexa in April which hence the lyrics in the song are “you cured my January blues” Alexa co-hosted Fuse News from Mid 2012 to end of 2013 which inspired the lyrics “I got a feeling I might have lit the very fuse ” Alex wrote a valentine’s poem for Alexa which reveals that they didn’t become a couple as soon as they met – “The idea that you may kiss it [Alex’s mouth] again is stuck in my brain, which hasn’t stopped thinking about you since well BEFORE any kiss” – You were a stranger in my phonebook, I was acting like I knew Alex moved to America with Alexa because she has her own show called “It’s on with Alexa Chung”, which was cancelled in December of 2009 – “When the winter is in full swing and your dreams just aren’t coming true” Alex and Alexa aren’t together anymore – “You and me could have been a team”

4. Clothing As the genre of song is indie rock, we thought that the actors need to fit the conventions in order for the genre of the video to be clearly identifiable.

5. Our ideas - Narrative Beginning - Have the actors out on the street/ in the car having a laugh with each other, when Joe sees Beth with Molly, everything slows down and Joe turns his head turns to gawk at Beth while everyone else is out of focus and having a laugh. – We thought of this because it shows how he instantaneously falls in love with her and how everything else surrounding him becomes irrelevant, like Alex with Alexa. As the song is about Alex and Alexa’s break up, the video will show Beth and Joe’s relationship for the duration of the song and at the end it will show the break up. When the song goes “I got a feeling that I might have lit the very fuse that you were trying not to light” we a re considering getting some sparklers and have a close up on Joe’s hand lighting it , whilst he looks up to the camera to reflect the lyrics at that time.

6. Our ideas - Performance We have already identified that there are some lyrics which we cannot transform and include in the narrative, so we decided to have all of the band on stage in school and do a take of the entire song in there so that we can meticulously edit the video and chose bits which are appropriate to use. As the song is called Knee Socks, we want to have a moment where the camera focuses on the knee sock.

7. Now this is where you come in… Obviously all the ideas that we have so far aren’t enough to create the entire Music Video, so any ideas/suggestions you have then feel free to share them now as the whole point of having this group is that most of us actually like the group and/or song so you will know what you would like to see in the video itself. And….. You will get a shoutout in the end credits too! - #ExcitingTimes!
