Who Are Our Learners?
3 Session Objectives Characterize learners (demographics, psycho-social, economic and educational profile, etc.) in their respective community. Express sensitivity and compassion to the different types of learners in the community being served Identify ways by which DepEd is responding to the different types of learners Assess your current programs on reaching out to all kinds of learners in your community Develop an action plan on how to reach all learners in the community
Why do we need to know who our Learners are?
Analyze this …. Form small groups of 5 members each. Give each group a set of 5 pictures of communities, feel free to use the ones provided in the packet or to provide your own pictures. Groups will discuss: - How many the learners are in the pictures. - Define the one key characteristic that makes them learners. Post your group’s answers on the manila paper on the wall
How does DepEd differentiate children and learners ?
The School Improvement Plan (SIP) should be “ child or learner-centered ” DepEd DO 44 s. 2015 ( Guidelines in the implementation of E-SIP )
How are our Learners doing?
Definition: “The total enrollment in a given level of education, regardless of age, as a percentage of the population who, according to national regulations, should be enrolled at this level.”
Student Completion Rates have increased from 2012 – 2014 This means more students are completing their year level. Definition: “Percentage of first grade/year entrants in a level of education who complete/finish the level in accordance with the required number of years of study.”
Promotion Rates have increased from 2012 – 2014 This means more students are being promoted to the next grade/ year level in the following school year. Definition: “The percentage of pupils/students promoted to the next grade/year level in the following school year.”
Pervasive Access to Basic Education for School-Age Children From 2010-2014, access to basic education has: Significantly increased (22.1%) for children at 5 years, slightly decreased (4%) for children at 6-11 years, and slightly decreased (6.3%) for children at 12-15 years
The Repetition Rates of Students has decreased from 2012 to 2014. This means fewer students repeat their school years. Definition: Percentage of pupils/students enrolled in a given grade/year in a given school year who study in the same grade/year the following school year.
The Dropout Rates of Students has decreased from 2012 to 2014. This means fewer students are dropping out of school. Definition: The percentage of pupils/students who (1) leave school during the year (2) complete the previous grade/year level but fail to enroll in the next grade/year level
