Kommunarka CSR strategy Afanasiev Nikita 613 Kastusik Artem 613 Karchevskiy Maksim 613 Melikov Ravil 613

Company Kommunarka is a huge Belarusian company , which makes sweets and everything which is connected with chocolate. It has very huge demand on Belorusian market. A lot of people love the taste of this production. In order to continue its succesfull activity we need to create a very good CSR strategy. We are strongly confident that this issue can and should be solved with the help of CSR. So , our aim is to study current CSR strategy , analyze it and find the ways of it’s development

Evaluating CSR performance of the company All information about Komunarkas CSR is placed in one sentense , which is located on the official website of the company. It sounds like this: one of our standards is the implementation of statutory, regulatory and other mandatory requirements related to risks in the field of quality and safety, health and environmental protection .

Also, we found information that in 2015 new Chinese filters were installed in the production. According to the chief technologist words, they will reduce emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere by more than 2 times.

It should be noted that the problem of lack of CSR at Belarusian companies is a bad trend. Belarusian companies underestimate the importance of CSR, as this concept has come to us not long ago, however, it does not justify them, especially large ones, to which Kommunarka belongs. As a conclusion, we would to say that Komunarka , and all Belarusian companies would do well to monitor the development of CSR trends at successful western companies, adapt them to our realities and apply them in practice. We think, that everyone understands that the rating of the first company in Belarus, which will actively engage in CSR and tell people about it, will grow rapidly.

Developing a CSR strategy for the company The first step to develop our CSR Strategy is that senior leadership and management of the firm, including the board of directors, must make an authentic, firm, and public commitment to CSR efforts, and engage with them. CSR efforts should be treated and managed as core business strategy, just as are the strategies of marketing, research and development, capital expenditure, and talent management Secondly, we should determine the top three business objectives of the company and develop CSR goals that will contribute to the achievement of those business objectives. In developing CSR goals of Komunarka must determine what its business objectives are.

After business objectives are determined, we align CSR goals with the firm’s core competencies. This practice will require focus and discipline. Firms should, however, seek causes and social or environmental strategies for which they own part of the solution. Then we will fully integrate CSR efforts into the governance of the company and into existing management systems. We should view CSR as both a risk-mitigation strategy and an opportunity-seeking strategy. We seek to find the sweet spot, that is, the intersection between business and social or environmental returns. Seek out partners in the community who have developed deep expertise in the cause or issue you are targeting, and work with these organizations, usually in the nonprofit sector, to develop the best solution and build capacity. Nonprofit partners are also in a better position to help the company communicate its CSR efforts, as nonprofits enjoy a higher level of trust

Finally, we will develop clear performance metrics, or key performance indicators, to measure the impact of your CSR efforts. These metrics will be both internal (measuring reputation, market share, brand perception, sales, operating expenses, and employee satisfaction) and external (measuring achievements in society and the environment). If we have no performance metrics, we will have no way to prove that the effort was effective, and it will not be sustainable over the long haul. And all in all on practice, as a consumers of Komunarka’s chocolate, we will see the following CSR activities of the firm:

1. There is a serious problem of exploitation of child labor in the countries where cacao grows. And these countries are our producers of resources for chocolate. So, firstly we will join International Cocoa Initiative (ICI) in order to help other participants eradicate child’s labor and give them an opportunity of getting education. Of course it will not cost us little money, 2. A new environment CSR program: We will strive to minimize the impact of our activities on the environment at all stages of production, realizing the following goals: Reducing water and energy consumption in manufacturing products, reducing production waste; Dramatic reduction in greenhouse gas emissions; Improving packaging, active use of recycling and recycling of waste, reducing the percentage of waste transferred to landfill; Careful use of natural resources.

So this will be our first two essential steps in developing CSR strategy. They of course will require time, efforts and money. But nevertheless it will help us to become more powerful dominate and a leader on Belarusian market. Our customers will be much more committed to us after implementing such kind of CSR activities. Therefore, we will behold how the face of our company will become clearer with a growth of demand on our production.
