Sometimes a sentence tells about something. Here are two sentences about “Stone Soup”. Who went from village to village? The traveler went from village to village. What does the first sentence do? (It asks about something). This is an example of an asking sentence . Read the second sentence. What does the sentence do? (It tells about something.) This is an example of a telling sentence .

3. Who were afraid of Pat the Cat? The mice were afraid of Pat the Cat. Here are two sentences from “Belling the Cat.” Who were afraid of Pat the Cat? The mice were afraid of Pat the Cat. What does the first sentence do? (It asks about something). This is an example of an asking sentence . Read the second sentence. What does the sentence do? (It tells about something.) This is an example of a telling sentence .

4. 1. A sentence that asks a question is called an asking sentence. An asking sentence ends with a question mark. Can you give an asking sentence about “The Crow and the Pitcher”? Now give an answer to the question with a telling sentence.
