COMMUNICATION SKILLS
DR. DEEPIKA SHARMA

•Letter is a written or printed
communication directed to a person or
organization.
•A letter is a written message that can be
handwritten or printed on paper.
•It is usually sent to the recipient
 via mail or
post in an envelope. Any such message that
is transferred via post is a letter, a written
conversation between two parties.
•Distinctions are commonly drawn between
personal letters (sent between family
members, friends, or acquaintances) and
business letters (formal exchanges with
businesses or government organizations)

Letter writing involves answering certain
questions like:
 What type of letter-formal/informal- I am
writing?
To whom I am writing.
What is the purpose of writing?

Whether the reader is familiar or unfamiliar?
How much should I write?
What will be the reader’s reaction?
An effective business letter must be able to
accomplish three basic things: deliver your message
(1) clearly, (2) appropriately and (3) persuasively.
