Lasix Tablets (Generic Furosemide Tablets)
Lasix (Generic Furosemide tablets) is a medicine used to treat fluid
build-up due to heart failure, liver scarring, or kidney disease.
This medicine is also used for the treatment of high blood
pressure.
Lasix tablets are used for the treatment of fluid retention
associated with heart failure, including left ventricular failure,
cirrhosis of the liver and renal disease, including nephrotic
syndrome.
This medicine is also used for the treatment of mild to moderate
hypertension when brisk diuretic response is required. It is used
alone or in combination with other anti-hypertensive agents in the

Uses of Lasix Tablets
Lasix (Generic Furosemide Tablets) is given to help treat fluid retention
(edema) and swelling that is caused by congestive heart failure, liver disease,
kidney disease, or other medical conditions. It works by acting on the
kidneys to increase the flow of urine.
Furosemide is also used alone or together with other medicines to treat high
blood pressure (hypertension). High blood pressure adds to the workload of
the heart and arteries. If it continues for a long time, the heart and arteries
may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain,
heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. High
blood pressure may also increase the risk of heart attacks. These problems
may be less likely to occur if blood pressure is controlled.

Warnings

Hypotension, Hypovolaemia and Severe electrolyte disturbances –
particularly hypokalaemia, hyponatraemia and acid-base
disturbances have to be corrected before Furosemide therapy is
started. Excessive diuresis may result in dehydration and
reduction in blood volume with circulatory collapse and with
the possibility of vascular thrombosis and embolism, usually in
elderly patients.
Sudden alterations of fluid and electrolyte balance in patients with
cirrhosis may precipitate hepatic coma; therefore, strict observation
is necessary during the period of diuresis.

diuretic action.
Symptoms of Lasix overdose can include Decreased urination,
drowsiness, increase in heart rate, irregular heartbeat, irritability,
mood changes, muscle cramps, numbness, tingling, pain, or
weakness in the hands, feet, or lips, rapid breathing, seizures,

Lasix Tablets During Pregnancy
Furosemide (Lasix Tablets) is classified by the US FDA as
Pregnancy Category C.
Furosemide has been shown to cause unexplained maternal
deaths and abortions in rabbits at 2, 4 and 8 times the maximal
recommended human dose. There are no adequate and well-
controlled studies in pregnant women. Lasix should be used
during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the
potential risk to the fetus.
Treatment during pregnancy requires monitoring of fetal growth
because of the potential for higher birth weights.
