Three stages of FILM MAKING

A Scene – it is a combination of shots that shows the action takes place in one location. A Shot -it is an action captured without a cut i.e., from the moment the camera is on till the moment the camera is off. It is single piece of continuous action photographed by a single camera. Frame - is a rectangular box in which the images are place. It is known as the alphabets of visual language. The normal frame per second is 24. If more frames are included the visuals will be slow and if 18 or less frames are included the visuals will be fast forward. PRODUCTION

Types of Shots Establishment shots - these shots establishes a location and a situation. It gives idea about what the setting is. Long shot – Long shots shows the location and the characters in action Full Shot - The camera is closer. It gives details of an individual from top to the bottom. It frames the entire height of a person Medium shot –It is also known as bust shot. It is framed from the waist to the top of the head. These shots helps to establish relationship of the character with other

Close up - the character is framed from the shoulder to the top of the head Extreme close up - These shots help to bring emotions. Only one feature like, eyes or hand movement are captured Movements with Camera There are two types of movements: Objective and subjective Lets Check on Video

Objective Movements : The camera is fixed at one place. The movement of camera from a stationary place without being displaced Pan – Moving camera in an imaginary horizontal line. Panning is from left to right or right to left. It gives the effect of following an action or a person Tilt – Moving a camera in an imaginary vertical line. The movement is upward or downward Zoom – Zoom in is moving closely in detail . It is done with changing focal length. Zooming out moving from the detail to the bigger object . Movements with Camera

Subjective Movements : In subjective movements the entire camera moves . It creates more impact on the movement of the character Tracking: Moving the camera along with the subject. The camera is moved in a particular track Trucking : The camera is mounted on a car or any vehicle and follows the subject Dolly: Physically approaching the subject (dolly in )or moving away from the subject (dolly out )

Jib camera: The camera is mounted on a jimmy jib and shot from upward. The movement of the jib is controlled by remote Crane: The camera is mounted on crane and shot is taken from the top Crab movement : Moving the camera through a circular track. It shows the impact on the subject as it is in focus. It is also used to show confusion of the subject Movements with Camera

Camera Angles Birds eye view – It is a panoramic view. Shows the visuals of the entire location High angle shot – The camera is placed at an elevated position and looks down at the subject. It shows the helpless condition of the subject Eye level – The eye level of the subject and the camera is on the same plane. The subject shares the equal position with the viewer

Low angle shot - The camera is placed at the lower position and looks up at the subject. It shows that the subject is more powerful than the viewer Dutch angle – The camera is kept in a tilted angle. It is used to show confusion Camera Angles Thanks
