DRIVE CUT FOR AUTOMATIC LCD

ABSTRACT
•A liquid crystal display, or LCD, is a video display that utilizes the light modulating
properties of liquid crystals to display pictures or text on a screen. Since their invention in
1964, LCD screens have grown to be used in a very wide variety of applications, including
computer monitors, television, and instrument panels.
•A liquid crystal display is a thin, flat display device made up of any number of pixels arrayed
in front of a light source or reflector.
•It uses very small amounts of electric power, and is suitable for use in battery-powered
electronic devices.
•Colour displays are possible by incorporating colour filters.
•The heart of all liquid crystal displays (LCDS) is a liquid crystal itself. A liquid crystal is a
substance that flows like a liquid, but its molecules orient. themselves in the manner of a
crystal.

INTRODUCTION
•LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) is a type of flat panel display which uses liquid crystals in its primary
form of operation. LEDs have a large and varying set of use cases for consumers and
businesses, as they can be commonly found in smartphones, televisions, computer monitors and
instrument panels.
•LCDs were a big leap in terms of the technology they replaced, which include light-emitting diode
(LED) and gas-plasma displays. LCDs allowed displays to be much thinner than cathode ray tube
(CRT) technology. LCDs consume much less power than LED and gas-display displays because
they work on the principle of blocking light rather than emitting it. Where an LED emits light, the
liquid crystals in an LCD produces an image using a backlight

MAJOR COMPONENTS OF LCD

LCD USE
•liquid crystal display (LCD),electronic display device that
operates by applying a varying electric voltage to a layer of
liquid crystal, thereby inducing changes in its optical properties.
LCDs are commonly used for portable electronic games, as
viewfinders for digital cameras and camcorders, in video
projection system, for electronic billboards,as monitor for
computers,and in flat pannel television.

LCD COMPONENTS
The basic display using liquid crystals is composed of six main
components
•A polarizing filter
•A glass plate that has a transparent electrode pattern
•The liquid crystal material
•A clear common electrode on glass
•A polarizer whose axis is crossed compared to the first
polarizer
•Either a reflective surface

LCD CONTROLLER
•A controller board is a piece in an electrical circuit that interfaces with
a peripheral object by connecting the computer to it. The connection
may be with other computer parts, such as the memory controller, or
with an external device, like a mouse, that acts as a peripheral
controller for an operation of the original device.

LCD PANNEL
•LCD is a combination of two states of matter, the solid and the liquid. The
solid part is crystal and this liquid and crystal together make the visible
image. LCD consists of two layers which are two polarized panels- filters
and electrodes.
•The LCD controller board is often called the analog/digital (A/D)board.
•As a type of hardware processor, it allows for various video sourceinputs
to be connected, selected, and displayed on the LCD screen. It does this
by converting the different video input signals into aformatmanageable by
theLCD panel.

BACKLIGHT
•Backlights are used in small displays to increase readability
in low light conditions such as in wristwatches, and are used
in smart phones, computer displays and LCD televisions to
produce light in a manner similar to a CRT display.

7-SEGMENT
•This 7-segment display driver which is known as aBinary Coded Decimal
or BCD to 7-segment display decoder and driver, is able to illuminate
both common anode or common cathode displays. But there are many
other single and dual display drivers available such as the very popular
TTL 7447.

WORKING HEADING

LCD WORKING
•A display is made up of millions ofpixles. The quality of a display commonly
refers to the number of pixels; for example, a 4K display is made up of 3840
x2160 or 4096x2160 pixels. A pixel is made up of three subpixels; a red, blue
and green—commonly called RCB. When the subpixels in a pixel change color
combinations, a different color can be produced. With all the pixels on a display
working together, the display can make millions of different colors. When the
pixels are rapidly switched on and off, a picture is created.
•The way a pixel is controlled is different in each type of display; CRT, LED, LCD
and newer types of displays all control pixels differently. In short, LCDs are lit by
a backlight, and pixels are switched on and off electronically while using liquid
crystals to rotate polarized light. A polarizing glass filter is placed in front and
behind all the pixels, the front filter is placed at 90 degrees. In between both
filters are the liquid crystals, which can be electronically switched on and off.

WIFI CONTROLLER
•Awireless LAN controller(WLC) is a network device used to monitor and manage
wireless access points in an organization. WLCs are connected to routers and allow
devices from across the organization to connect to the router via access points. WLCs are
generally used in combination with theLightweight Access Point Protocol(LWAPP) to
manage light-weight access points in bulk by the network administrator ornetwork
operations center.Thewireless LANcontroller is part of the Data Plane within the Cisco
Wireless Model.
•The WLAN controller automatically handles the configuration of wirelessaccese-points It
centralizes wireless network infrastructure and handles bandwidth allocation to the
access points (APs). Before the use of WLCs were widespread, APs had to handle
connections individually, leading to unstable data links and poor connections. The use of
WLCs solves this problem.

LCD TECHNOLOGY PROCESS

CLASSIFICATION OF LCD

LCD SPECIFICATIONS
•Touch Type. LCD displays have various touch technologies, including.
•Brightness (Luminance) .
•Backlight Longevity.
•Temperature Range.
•Color Depth.
•Viewing Angle and Technology.
•Dimensions and Areas.
•Response Time.

ADVANTAGES
•An LCD cell consumes only microwatts of power over a
thousand times less than LED displays.
•LCDs can operate on voltages as low as 2 to 3 V and are easily
driven by MOS IC drivers.

DISADVANTAGE
•They cannot be seen in the dark,
•They have a limited viewing angle;
•They can be operated in limited temperature
range.

APPLICATIONS
•LCDs with a small number of segments, are used in
digital watches and pocket calculators, Small
monochrome displays in personal organizers, or older
laptop screensHigh-resolution color displays such
as modern LCD computer monitors and televisions.

CONCLUSION
•The flat screen itself is, except in laptops, still regarded as an investment
item. People are unwilling to buy flat until their existing CRT expires. For
reliability at present LCDs have the edge over plasma for small screens but in
the giant screen TV market in particular Plasma is the only option. A 60-inch
LG television is currently retailing at £15 000 which is slightly out of the price
range of the average consumer but certainly is a very desirable item. The
future of the flat screen is probably going to be based on the LCD for at least
another few years until emissive displays reach their full potential, both in size
and reliability. Unless these factors are significantly more favourable than
those of current flat screen technology there may be an unwillingness to
switch to these materials. If a good performance is seen then obviously
organics will win out due to cost and ease of manufacture. I feel that by the
end of the decade the future of plastic screens will have been decided one
way or another.
