TYPES OF SIGNALS
•Deterministic and Random Signals
•Peroidic and Aperiodic Signals
•Singularity Functions
•Phasor Signals and Spectra
•Energy and Power Signals

Communication System, CASECommunication System, CASE
DETERMINISTIC AND RANDOM
SIGNALS
•Deterministic signals can be completed
specified as function of time.
•Random signals take random values at
any given instant and must be modeled
probabilistically.

Communication System, CASECommunication System, CASE
PERIODIC AND APERIODIC SIGNALS
•Periodic signal is one which repeats itself
after a specified period of time or after a
particular wavelength.
•Functions which do not repeat themselves
are Aperiodic signals

Communication System, CASECommunication System, CASE
SINGULARITY FUNCTION
One of the special categories of Aperiodic
functions which may or may not give the
information for the start of the function but
it definitely do not have any information
about either the magnitude or the
termination time

PHASORS AND SIGNAL SPECTRA
•Phasor is a type of periodic signals and in
a system it can be characterised by
Amplitude, Frequency and Phase
•Phasor can be considered as a type of
rotating vector and it can be related to the
real part of sinusoidal.
•Phasors are only time domain
representations of a signal

Communication System, CASECommunication System, CASE
PHASORS AND SIGNAL SPECTRA
•For frequency domain Magnitude and
phase are given for a particular frequency
then plot of magnitude and phase with
respect to its frequency, which are discrete
line, represent ampltude and phase
spectra

ENERGY AND POWER SIGNALS
•A signal is said to be the Energy signal if and
only if it has a definite energy and zero power.
•A signal is said to be the Power signal if and
only if it has a definite power and infinite energy.
•A signal with finite duration is an energy signal,
whereas signal with infinite duration is a power
signal. Power gives the average energyover an
infinite duration.

SERIES
Sum of finite or infinite sequence of expressions
is called series, in other words one can say that
similar things place together in an order or
happening one after another is called series

ODD AND EVEN FUNCTION

WHY DO WE NEED FOURIER ANALYSIS
In communication we send and recieve
information laced signal over a medium,
the medium and the hardware corrupts the
signal. The receiver has to extract the
information from the corrupted signal. The
transmitted signal have well defined
spectral contents, so if the receiver can do
spectral analysis of the received signal
then it can extract the information.

FOURIER ANALYSIS
•Fourier Analysis can look at an unknown
signal and do an equivalent of a chemical
analysis, identifying various frequencies
and their relative quantities in the signal.
