Legal responsibility in radiographer practice is the way in which you are obligated to obey the law in professional activities.

Laws based on the English pattern: The right to refuse to treat a patient except in an emergency situation The right to sue for fees The right to add a title or descriptions to one’s name. Unregistered practitioners are not allowed to hold positions or appointment in public and local hospitals.

5. fundamental duties: To exercise a reasonable degree of skill and knowledge in treating pts. Once a relationship established , there is an obligation to attend the pt as long as necessary unless the pt requests withdrawal . Must give attention to his cases & answer calls with reasonable promptness.

d. Children must be protected from harming themselves. e. Special precautions must be taken in the case of adults who are incapable of taking care of themselves. 6. Poisonous drugs must be kept in separate containers properly labeled & marked.

7. There is duty of secrecy to the pts.8. dangerous diseases must be reported. 8. All the health professional are considered solely responsible for their own professional acts irrespective of the employing authority.

Acts that prevent registration or justify removal from the register for following offence: Conviction for a non- bailable offence. Being found guilty of conduct indication the individual is not fit to be registered. Possessing defects in character.

Unethical practices commonly prohibited by law: The dishonest use of certificates Procuring registration by false means. Falsification of the register. Representation of registration by an unrecognized person. Representation of a registrant as a medical practitioner.

Legal terms An act is a written law formally passes by the Govt. Before an Act is passed it is introduced to legislature by means of Bill . Bill is a draft. Certain written forms used regularly by the professionals are considered to be legal documents. Legal papers must be written CORRECTLY, DATED AND SIGNED.

Crime: a forbidden act which is punishable by law. Defendant : the person who is accused & must answer for his actions in a legal suit. Malpractice: a failure in professional duty, practice or skill that leads to injury or harm to the client or pt. Narcotic law: a specific law which controls the giving out purchasing narcotic drugs.

Negligence : failure to use the care that a person would normally use; careless. Plaintiff: the accuser or complaining person in a legal suit. Wrong: an act that is unfair, unjust or hurts another person.

Common legal hazards in radiography Slippery floors Faulty equipment and electrical wiring Absence of bed side rails when necessary. Presence of inflammable substances. Inadequate lighting.
