HELLO! Kent Adrian M. Unato Teacher Technical Institute of Iloilo City

I. Objectives At the end of the lesson the students should be able to: Generate business ideas; Prepare a business plan; Apply marketing strategies; Manage business costs; Manage stocks and supplier relationships; and Manage people and productivity.

Lesson 9 : Managing People and Productivity

Running a business is no easy task. To run your business successfully, you will have to enlist help from other people. Furthermore, to accomplish this efficiently, you have to delegate tasks among your employees according to a logical strategy. It also helps to have a good working relationship with external parties involved in your business. And so in this lesson, we will learn how to identify human resource requirements, recruit productive people, ensure workplace productivity, and maintain business relations.

Topic 1: Identifying Human Resource Requirements

Topic 2: Recruiting Productive People

Hiring the right people for the right job is a crucial step in managing productivity.  Recruitment does not have to be complex. It just needs to be based on the needs of your business. Here’s how to do it: Determine the work that needs to be done in your business  Write job descriptions that specify who is to do what Attract suitable applicants and then interview and select the “right fit”  Finally , help the new worker to settle in and to understand your business

Writing Job Descriptions A job description generally contains the following:

Name of the business Job title Who they will report to (supervisor) Who they are in charge of (if applicable) Responsibilities and tasks Qualifications Expected start date Salary   How to apply

Finding the Best Fit 1. Advertise the job vacancy and identify possible candidates for the position. 2. Interview and test the candidate. 3. Choose the person that fits the job description and the workplace culture. 4. Focus on the skills and attitudes of the candidate. 5. Do not discriminate. 6. Negotiate regarding compensation and benefits.

Topic 3: Ensuring Workplace Productivity

Topic 4: Business Relations
