Introduction A Lipid Profile (Lipid Panel) is a blood test that measures different types of lipids in the blood. It helps assess cardiovascular disease risk and monitor lipid-lowering treatments.

Patient Preparation Fasting: 9-12 hours fasting is preferred; only water allowed. Dietary Restrictions: Avoid alcohol, high-fat foods, excessive sugar 24 hrs before. Medications: Some medications may need to be paused (consult doctor). Physical Activity: Avoid intense exercise 24 hours before the test. Hydration: Drink plenty of water for easier blood collection.

Specimen Collection Specimen Type:Venous blood (Serum or Plasma) Collection Site: Median cubital vein or any accessible vein Collection Tubes : - Serum: Red-top or yellow-top (SST) - Plasma: Green-top (Heparin) or Purple-top ( EDTA) Volume Required: 3-5 mL Storage: Separate serum/plasma within 1-2 hours , store at 2-8°C if delayed.
