What is Listening? Listening is the ability to accurately receive and interpret messages in the communication process. Listening is key to all effective communication . Without the ability to listen effectively, messages are easily misunderstood.
Active Listening ' Active listening ' means , full concentration on what is being said rather than just passively 'hearing' the message of the speaker. The three "As," of Active Listening A ttitude Attention Adjustment
Effective Listening skills. Stop Talking Prepare self for Listening. Put the speaker at ease. Avoid distractions. Empathize. Be Patient. Avoid Personal Prejudice. Listen to the tone. Listen to the ideas. Watch out for non verbal communication.
Virtues of Listening Acknowledgement. Builds Trust. Broadens Perspective. Increases Patience. More approachable. Minimizes stress & tension. Help in conflict resolution. Increases scope for learning.
Listening of Powerful form of acknowledgement. It is a way of saying you are important!!
Builds stronger relationship. …………….. Creates a desire to cooperate among people because they feel they are acknowledged and accepted.
Creates acceptance and openness ……….. Conveys the message that “I am not judging you.”
