Carrie : New York waiters never leave you alone, I really don't like all this “hi guys is everything okay?” stuff James : Why? Do you mean waiters aren't friendly in London? Robert : Oh, they're very friendly Carrie : Yes, they're friendly but not too friendly, they don't bother you all the time Waitress : Can I get you anything else? More drinks maybe? James : No thanks we're fine Waitress : Fantastic Carrie : See what I mean? Personally, I think people in London are a lot more easy-going, London's just not as hectic as New York James : I'm sure we all like peace and quiet, but in my opinion , New York is possibly, well no, it's definitely the greatest city in the world, don’t you agree? Carrie : To be honest, I definitely prefer London Robert : Come on Rob, you've lived in both what do you think? : Oh well, I have to say London's very special, it's more relaxed, it's got great parks and you can cycle everywhere, it's dangerous to cycle in New York James : Why would you cycle when you can drive a car? Carrie : You can’t be serious James : Okay, I agree London has its own peculiar charm, but if you ask me, nothing compares with the city like New York, the whole world is here Carrie But that's the problem, it's too big there are too many people, everybody's so stressed out and nobody has any time for you Susan : I don't think that's right Carrie, New Yorkers are very friendly

Presenter 1 : That was a great concert last night Scarlett Scarlett : Thanks Presenter 1 : As we know Scarlett's got a new CD coming out soon so let's have a look at the best way we can promote it in France Mark : Okay well I think Scarlett should visit the major music stores, in my opinion that's the best way to meet her fans Presenter 1 : I’m not so sure , what do you think Jack? Jack : Actually, I don't agree with Mark, Scarlett isn't commercial in that way Presenter 1 : Scarlett, Scarlett? Scarlett : I agree with Jack , I don't have a commercial image it isn't my style Mark : Okay but Scarlett needs more publicity, what about a series of TV and radio interviews, don't you agree? Presenter 1 : Yes, well that's what everybody does, what we want is something different Jack : Personally I think Scarlett should tour clubs and summer festivals, she can DJ, play her favourite music, play the new CD, and meet her fans too Presenter 1 : Yes absolutely , that's a much better idea, Mark? Mark : Okay why not? Presenter 1 : Scarlett? Scarlett : I think … that's a great idea, thank you jack

Gendis (female, SMA student) : I don’t think most of us see how social media can help shape our future. Kiko (male, SMA student) : What do you mean? Gendis : Well, Kiko , if you take a closer look at our classmates’ posts on their social media ... (not finishing her sentence). Nuri (female, SMA student) : I see where you’re heading, Gendis . I am with you . I think they use their social media mainly for showing off, which is not healthy for themselves and others. Kiko : I am not sure about that . Why? Because I also see them follow leading figures in their fields. You both must know Dinda from the other class. She is a model. I see her follow Kaia Gerber’s Instagram . Maybe Dinda aims to be a worldclass model just like Kaia ? Gendis : Interesting! Nuri : Maybe we can investigate that and report it for our Social Science project? Kiko : Sounds great, Nuri ! Gendis : Sure! Why not?
Activity 8 Listen carefully!
Kiko : I am proud of us, friends! Gendis : I know, right? I think (opinion) our report for the Social Science project made some strong points about social media and youth’s identity construction. Nuri : Exactly (agreeing). The best part of the report is the data from our interview with Dinda , the model. Gendis : I couldn’t believe (opinion) how much Dinda adored Kaia Gerber and was so inspired by her. Nuri : I see what you mean! (agreeing) The fact that Dinda is now a well-read girl proves how she follows in Kaia’s footsteps. Kaia is a total bookworm. Kiko : Hello, girls! Remember who told you that Dinda followed Kaia’s Instagram? Me! So, the credit goes to me! Nuri : That’s not right! (disagreeing) Who came up with the idea of us doing some investigation on the issue? It was me! Gendis : It’s our work, guys! Cheers to our hard work!
